Teacher Survival Kit - A Back to School Teacher Gift

This post was first shared in August of 2013. Over the years we have given some version of this gift to our new teachers. I thought it was worth re-sharing with you. This teacher survival kit is an inexpensive and thoughtful way to help your child’s teacher start the school year off right.

I now am guardian of my seven year old niece (more on that later) and she is so excited to give one of these survival kits to her new teacher on orientation day next week.

I have the greatest admiration and respect for teachers. I remember reading somewhere that teaching is the profession that teaches all other professions, and that couldn’t be more true. I think we all have a teacher or two whom we remember fondly – a teacher that took an interest in us, the time and care to help shape us into the people we now are.  Teachers have remarkable patience and a great love for children. Our Teacher Survival Kit is just a small box containing a few essential items, along with a few items that will help your teacher when she is having a particularly rough day.

A teacher takes a hand, opens a mind, and touches a heart.

I picked this plastic container up at Michael’s for just $1, and then glued onto the top with a piece of alphabet craft paper.

Inside the box I placed a packet of Kleenex tissues, hand sanitizer, a nail file, a bottle of Advil, lip balm, a packet of Oreo cookies, and a Godiva chocolate bar. I had considered just giving her a box filled with junk food, but decided to balance it out with a few necessary items.

I think this is a fun and inexpensive way to help a teacher you know get the school year off to a great start. What would you put in your teacher survival kit?

  • Yes, I have a friend that has been a kindergarten teacher for 30 years, and she said to me: “That she gets crap like this almost every day of the school year”! Imagine how much stuff she has collected over 30 years!!!
