This post was first shared in August of 2013. Over the years we have given some version of this gift to our new teachers. I thought it was worth re-sharing with you. This teacher survival kit is an inexpensive and thoughtful way to help your child’s teacher start the school year off right.
I now am guardian of my seven year old niece (more on that later) and she is so excited to give one of these survival kits to her new teacher on orientation day next week.
I have the greatest admiration and respect for teachers. I remember reading somewhere that teaching is the profession that teaches all other professions, and that couldn’t be more true. I think we all have a teacher or two whom we remember fondly – a teacher that took an interest in us, the time and care to help shape us into the people we now are. Â Teachers have remarkable patience and a great love for children. Our Teacher Survival Kit is just a small box containing a few essential items, along with a few items that will help your teacher when she is having a particularly rough day.
A teacher takes a hand, opens a mind, and touches a heart.
I picked this plastic container up at Michael’s for just $1, and then glued onto the top with a piece of alphabet craft paper.
Inside the box I placed a packet of Kleenex tissues, hand sanitizer, a nail file, a bottle of Advil, lip balm, a packet of Oreo cookies, and a Godiva chocolate bar. I had considered just giving her a box filled with junk food, but decided to balance it out with a few necessary items.
I think this is a fun and inexpensive way to help a teacher you know get the school year off to a great start. What would you put in your teacher survival kit?
I want to be a teacher, go back to school and finish my degree. I’ve volunteer in many schools and this is the perfect gift for all teachers, even high school teachers! Thanks for the cute idea!
This is such a cute idea for teaches! I always so happy when parents would bring survival kits or teacher’s presents when I taught. I would love for you to share your project on my Meet Up Monday Blog Party!

As someone who used to teach I love this. Somedays it is a very difficult job. Such a great idea!!!
Such a cute idea. Glad to to see this on Nap Time Creations Link Party.
I love the idea and the additional suggestions from the comments.
As a former teacher I just want to say THANK YOU! teachers really do appreciate these wonderful gifts from caring parents like you – especially the chocolate 🙂 (just stopping by from #TurnItUpTuesday )
Cute idea! I would have loved one of those back when I was teaching. I’d like to invite you to link this up at my weekly link party. Hope to see you there! http://www.thelifeofjenniferdawn.com/2014/07/a-little-bird-told-me-link-party-101.html
Speaking as a teach, this is an adorable idea and one that would be greatly appreciated!
That’s adorable! What a simple, thoughtful gesture. I’ll have to pick up an extra pencil box and do this for my second grader’s teacher. 🙂
So thoughtful of you! 🙂 I’m trying to think of the other things I keep in my desk, just in case. one of your other commenters mentioned a Tide-to-go pen and a lint roller (yes!) … I also have mints, nail clippers, Tylenol, etc. I also get giddy about office supplies: mechanical pencils, pretty colored pens, paper clips, and binder clips. Flash drives are FABULOUS too; I create most of my teaching aids electronically (printables, worksheets, handouts, etc.) since those resources are not provided for my content area (secondary music), and taking home a flash drive to work on things at home is much easier than lugging home a bag of books, folders, etc.
