You might recall our announcement back in late January that Laura and I were teaming up to participate in the Family Dollar Home Makeover Challenge. We are competing against 9 other bloggers for some serious bragging rights as the #FamilyDollarHomeMakeover champs. The competition is sure to be tough, but we’re feeling pretty confident about our makeover. The time has finally come to reveal our Family Dollar Teen Girl Bedroom Makeover. Disclosure: We received compensation and P&G products in order to participate in the challenge, but all opinions are mine alone.
My niece Maddie’s older sister, Becca, recently had a room makeover of her own, and Maddie has since been using her sisters old hand-me-downs. Grandma Laura and I were so excited to have an opportunity to go shopping at our local Family Dollar and give Maddie a new bedroom that she can truly enjoy and be proud of.
The Family Dollar Home Makeover Challenge
As all challenges should be challenging, this room makeover had some pretty strict guidelines that we had to follow. Our room makeover budget was set at just $50, and all shopping had to be done at Family Dollar. Luckily for us, Family Dollar recently had a 25% off home decor sale which allowed us to buy a whole lot more with our 50 bucks!
The Before Picture
This room was in serious need of a makeover. The old hand-me-down bedding was really showing it’s wear with several rips. Additional lighting was also much needed to brighten up this room.
The Cleanup
One of the challenges we faced when making over Maddie’s bedroom was the cleanup involved. Like most thirteen year old girls, Maddie isn’t as tidy as we might like her to be. So before we brought in the new bedding and accessories for the room, a some serious elbow grease went into cleaning up her room. Lucky for us, Family Dollar had great savings on many P&G brand products like Mr. Clean Multi-Surface Spray and Bounty 2 Huge Rolls for quicker cleanup. We also picked up a Febreeze Set & Refresh Sleep Serenity Bedside Diffuser, in the Moonlight Lavender scent, to help Maddie get a relaxing and peaceful sleep.
Our Teen Girl Bedroom Makeover Up Close
Maddie got so excited when we spotted this pink and zebra print complete bedding ensemble at Family Dollar. It came complete with bed skirt, queen size comforter, 2 standard size pillow shams, and 3 decorative pillows. It was an amazing find, and having the included pillows and bed skirt made our job a whole lot easier. The satin fabric and ruffle details are exactly what a girly girl like Maddie Jane would love.
These little round stick-on mirrors are probably my favorite feature in this room. The before sale price of these mirrors was just $3 per pack, and we used 2 packs to achieve this look above the bed. It’s something a little different and has the funk factor needed for a teen bedroom.
Take a look at the accessories we found up close. The black and white lamp was an absolute steal with a before sale price of only $12! The girls liked it so much that we had to go back to Family Dollar and pick up a second lamp for Becca’s bedroom. We couldn’t resist the $3 flameless candle that went so perfectly with everything else. With the drying effects of the cold winter weather, a zebra print lotion dispenser seemed like the perfect thing for the bedside table. It was another fab $3 find. The plaque pretty much sums up teenagers in general. Gosh they’re expensive at this age! I also need to mention that the little stick on gems we added to the clear votive cup was something we already had stashed away in our craft room. Other than that, everything you see in these pictures came from Family Dollar. Are you impressed yet? We sure hope so, because we need your votes!
