The Looneyspoons Collection by sisters Janet & Greta Podleski is much more than a collection of recipes. While it does have a fabulous collection of family friendly recipes, it’s also very funny and chock full of interesting information. The Looneyspoons Collection includes 400 pages and 325 recipes that will keep you both laughing and cooking for many months.
Each recipe in the book has been given a very clever name such as Ham-Me-Down Dinner, Dilly Beloved, Darth Tater, and Erik Eggstrata. Along with each recipe you get beautiful images, silly cartoons, Nutrition Nugget, Food Bites, Recipe Tips, quotes and lots of laughs.
“You know, I really don’t need buns of steel. I’d be happy with buns of cinnamon.” ~ Ellen DeGeneres
Here’s a Nutrition Nugget that is featured with the recipe for Fantasy Island Cake:
“Stranded on a dessert island? When faced with a humongous slab of Double-Fudge-Brownie-Mocha-Coca-Kahlua Cheesecake, try this experiment: Have three bites, then stop and put the rest aside for a few minutes. Most of the time, a little nibble is just as satisfying as eating the whole slice. The banquet is in the first bite! Really!”
You’ll find recipes for an entire meal including: breakfast, lunch, dinner, appetizers, snacks and desserts. My mom (Laura) said this is by far the best cookbook she’s ever owned and I have to agree with her on this one. I really like that The Looneyspoons Collection is so much more than a cookbook. We have had so much fun reading the interesting facts and laughing over the recipe names, that it hasn’t been filed away with the rest of our cookbooks. Instead, it’s sitting on the coffee table where we can read it whenever time allows.
Food Bite: “If you boil an egg while singing all five verses and chorus of the hymn ‘Onward, Christian Soldiers,’ it’ll be a perfectly soft-cooked egg when you come to amen.”
Last weekend we were looking for a side dish for our BBQ and came upon the recipe Greek is the Word. The image of the recipe in the book looked so good that we just had to make it. It simple to prepare and very delicious; definitely a recipe we will be making again.
Doesn’t that look delicious?
