The Secret Life of Pets DVD and Blu-ray are in stores now, so get your Pup Corn and grab your copy today! With both winter break coming up, the release of this is just perfect for keeping the kids entertained. Great for holiday gift giving too! Tati and I saw this in the theater and enjoyed it so much. We were excited to get the blu-ray to have our very own The Secret Life of Pets family movie night, complete with a dog inspired movie snack.
This post is in partnership with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. However, my enthusiasm for this fun family movie is all my own.
The Secret Life of Pets Family Movie Night Inspiration
Ever wonder what your pets do when you’re not home? Brought to you by the same humans behind Despicable Me, The Secret Life of Pets is a comedy about the lives our pets lead after we leave for work or school each day. If you’re a pet owner, you’re really going to want to watch this movie!
I don’t always enjoy animated films as much as Tati. The Secret Life of Pets is an exception. I probably laugh more than she does when we watch this movie. There were also some intense and tender moments in the film. I particularly love how the relationship between Max and Duke develops throughout the movie.
Max wasn’t too happy when his owner brought a new dog (Duke) home. That eventually changes as the two go through some adventures and harrowing moments together. They really come to depend on each other.
Some very talented humans made this movie. The all-star voice cast includes Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Jenny Slate, Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Dana Carvey, Hannibal Buress, Bobby Moynihan, Steve Coogan and Albert Brooks.
We received the Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack Target Exclusive featuring 4 pages of decals. The combo pack comes with the Blu-ray, DVD, and a Digital copy. Plus, you can decorate your room, car, office, laptop, or wall with 4 pages of decals featuring main characters and their funny personalities.
Tati and I both think the decals are great. She was ready to put them all over her bedroom furniture. I convinced her to jazz up one of her notebooks instead. It’s a fun addition to the Blu-ray/DVD and I think it really adds to the gift giving element.
Make a Movie Themed Snack
It is always fun to incorporate a themed snack into family movie night. For The Secret Life of Pets it can be as simple as Pup Corn and hot dogs. With just a little more effort you can make Nachos with Dog Bone Chips. We used a 2-inch bone shaped cookie cutter to cut out the chips.
Dog Bone Chips
1 package of flour tortillas (8 tortillas)
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Sea salt or Kosher salt, to taste
Preheat oven to 250 degrees.
Cut tortillas with a bone-shaped cookie cutter and place on a baking sheet. You should be able to get 4 to 5 bones per tortilla.
Whisk the olive oil and garlic powder together. Brush oil mixture onto both sides of tortilla bones. Sprinkle both sides of tortilla bones with salt. The kids will really enjoy doing this part.
Bake for 30 minutes or until crisp.
I like to keep things simple. We ate our Dog Bone Chips with some ready-made nacho cheese dip. Save your energy for all the laughing you’ll be doing while watching this movie.
The new release features an hour of bonus content, including three hilarious mini-movies: the all-new Norman Television and Weenie PLUS Mower Minions which debuted in theaters and is now available to own.
We will undoubtedly be watching The Secret Life of Pets again and again. If you didn’t catch The Secret Life of Pets in the theater, be sure to watch the below trailer:
