Back-to-School Gets Better for 10,000 Kids This Year Because of Tom’s of Maine

Starting the new school year with the proper tools is just one way kids can feel confident about going back-to-school. This school year, Tom’s of Maine has teamed up with The Kids in Need Foundation (KINF) to donate 10,000 Backpacks Full of Good to students most in need, nationwide, along with the Good Luck Letter initiative offering students words of encouragement.

We head back-to-school in less than two weeks, so this past weekend my little girl and I shopped for school supplies. The supply list didn’t seem as long as some previous school years, but things added up quickly. It sure didn’t look like $35 in that shopping cart. At the moment, I have just one school age child and found myself thinking about some of the other parents who were buying school supplies times 2 or 3 or more.

As we shopped, my 9-year old took great care in making sure we got the right things and marked each item off our list. Starting the school year off with the right tools really seems to matter to her a lot. Kids have so many things to worry about in school such as good grades, peer pressure and making new friends. It’s tough when they have to worry about whether or not they have essentials like pencils, paper and glue sticks. It’s one of those things that happens a lot though. When money is tight, it can be challenging for families to obtain the necessary back-to-school gear. As a single mom, I’ve been there, done that and wrote the book on it. It’s one of the reasons I’m so proud to be a part of the Tom’s of Maine Goodness Circle, and tell you about the “Backpacks Full of Good” initiative.

Share a “Good Luck Letter” with a Child

Starting the new school year with the proper tools is just one way kids can feel confident about going back-to-school. Words of encouragement can go a long way in giving a child the confidence they need. With this in mind, Tom’s of Maine is inviting the public to add an encouraging word to a student’s backpack.

Now through August 19, 2018, families can visit https://www.tomsofmaine.com/backtoschool to submit a personalized “Good Luck Letter” which will be included inside the bag, along with the supplies. I encourage you to take a moment and sit down with your child to send a letter of encouragement to another student. I think this is a great opportunity to not just wish a student good luck, but to teach our kids about the importance of helping others.

Our words can make a difference.

  • I love to hear a company donates a portion of its proceeds to help improve our world. I’m already a big Tom’s fan, but now I don’t think I’ll ever buy another brand again.

  • Tom’s is such a socially responsible company and now they are getting kids off to school with clean teeth and a full backpack. I will look for their tothpaste where I shop and let everyone know about the offer.

  • What a wonderful initiative by Tom’s of Maine! There are too many kids out there that lack the school supplies. If a lot more companies would follow suit, that would be great.

  • This is a great thing Tom’s is doing. I see stores around where we live that have big boxes for a “supply drive”. While we do donate, I wonder why their store doesn’t do something like this?

  • It warms my heart seeing companies like Tom’s of Maine doing things like this to help out kids in need. I hope to see this type of initiative grow to more companies. We need more like Tom’s!

  • It’s good to try and help out as much as we can when it comes to children in need. Especially for their school supplies. I think this is wonderful! It’s so awesome of Tom’s of Maine to host this kind of initiative.
