Earlier this year I got my first touchscreen device, a Surface RT tablet. I have really grown to love using Windows 8 and enjoy the touchscreen experience. It’s been great for traveling and is the perfect device for the kids to play games. I found myself longing for that same experience on my near prehistoric laptop which is the computer I use for my day to day work. A new laptop isn’t in the budget right now, so I went ahead and upgraded to Windows 8 on my existing device. Still, I found myself wanting the touchscreen experience and luckily got the answer to that dilemma when I was asked by E Fun to review the APEN Touch 8 Pen. E Fun sent me the APEN Touch 8 Pen a few weeks ago, and I’ve been loving the touchscreen capabilities ever since.
The Apen Touch 8 pen uses Ultrasound and Infrared technologies to turn any Windows 8 enabled computer 17 inches or smaller into a touch screen. The device clips on to the side of your computer and plugs in to the USB port to give your older Windows 8 computer touch capabilities.
Just Plug and Play
It was so easy to install and came with a stylus, digital pen, carrying case, batteries, USB cable, base unit, and a metal strip used to attach the base unit to your PC. I am usually not real good at putting things together, but this was surprisingly easy to assemble and install. It’s nice when the included instructions actually help. There are no drivers required – just plug and play.
As you can see from the image above, the base unit and USB cord doesn’t really get in the way of anything. It came with a velcro strap which allowed me to shorten the cord. Also, the soft pen tip will leave your PC screen scratch free.
With the soft pen, you can easily and safely touch or write on your PC or laptop. There will be no smudges, smears, or greasy fingerprints from the kids.
The touch key pad is rather large and perfect for late at night when my eyes are tired. You can easily toggle between letters, numbers, special characters, and emoticons.
Kids can play fun games like this ScribbleMix game by Disney. You can also hand write emails, sign your name on a document, make notes, draw pictures, browse images and web pages, and more.
Note: The Touch 8 Pen is compatible with non-touch screen laptops or computers that are less than 17″ and running Windows 8. The APEN Touch 8 Pen for Windows 8 retails for $79.99 and is available from the folks at E Fun.
Win It! One lucky U.S. reader will win an APEN Touch 8 Pen (ARV $79.99).
As mentioned above, I received the APEN Touch 8 Pen to review. No compensation was received. All opinions expressed are 100% my own.
