Disclosure: I’m proud to be working with CVS Pharmacy to help spread the word about how to #FindYourHealthy. All opinions expressed are my own, and all product claims or program details shared should be verified at CVS.com or with the appropriate manufacturers.

As a long-time traveler, I’ve developed a list of tried and true travel essentials. Must-have items to keep me and my family happy, safe and healthy on our family vacations. Today I’m sharing my favorite essentials for healthy travel. This list includes my must-haves, because I try to pack light when I travel. Depending on our destination, these items may vary slightly. Here’s what we brought along on our European summer vacation.

Recently, I did a 2-week tour in Europe with my niece, Maddie, and friend, Debbie. We visited a number of cities throughout Switzerland, Italy and France. One day we were atop snow covered Mount Titlis in Switzerland, and two days later in the hot city of Verona, Italy where we stood beneath Juliet’s famous balcony.

Here we are in front of the beautiful, ancient Arena in Verona. We found out while we were there that Adele was doing a concert in the arena that night… if only!

The next day we were in Orvieto, then on to Venice where we went on a gondola ride. I’ve always wanted to do that! Our tour guide covered a lot of ground. At times it was hard to keep up, so staying healthy was essential.

Get plenty of rest while you are traveling and catch zzz’s whenever and wherever you can, be it on a plane, train or bus. I snapped a picture of Maddie catching taking a snooze on a bus, but she threatened my life dare I show it to you. He he.

I have an inflatable travel pillow that doesn’t take up much space and inflates easily. Don’t forget an eye mask to for blocking light on a plane, train or in a hotel room. And never travel without ear plugs. They are a must on a plane and you never know what kind of noise you will have to deal with at a hotel. In Rome we stayed at a hotel that overlooked a busy highway. Those Romans drive crazy! Our earplugs came in oh-so handy.

Don’t leave yourself without a first aid kit and some medicines for things like motion sickness, headaches, and upset tummies. I stocked up on these healthy essentials at CVS Pharmacy, about a week before our trip. If you’re like me and enjoy trying new foods when you travel, some antacid and Pepto-Bismol are an absolute must.

Keep germs at bay with hand sanitizer and antibacterial wipes. Boost your immune system with EmergenC and vitamins. Also, don’t forget to check with your CVS Pharmacist and fill any prescription medications you take.

Some miscellaneous items to keep you healthy while traveling are sunscreen and travel size tissue packs. Depending on what country you are traveling in, many public restrooms don’t provide toilet tissue. That’s something you’ll always want to be prepared for.

Lastly, I want to talk some more about traveling with healthy snacks. During long road trips and flight delays, some healthy snacks can really save the day. During our Europe trip last June, there was a train strike going on in Paris which resulted in a 12 hour bus ride from Nice to Paris, instead of our high speed train. Because of the duration of our bus ride, our tour guide limited our lunch and potty breaks. The healthy snacks I picked up from CVS before our trip, were a real life-saver. CVS Pharmacy has healthy travel snacks from all your favorite brands. Be sure to use your ExtraCare Card upon checkout to ensure you are receiving the latest and greatest deals and savings from CVS!

For each of us, I filled a quart-size bag with healthy granola bars, small bags of nuts and raisins, and fruit bars. We kept these bags in our backpacks for snacking emergencies like that 12 hour bus ride.

I hope these suggestions will help keep your family happy and healthy on your next family vacation.
