We are often looking for opportunities to recycle and repurpose our consumable products.  My oldest son is brilliant at reusing toilet paper rolls, cardboard boxes, and plastic bottles to create.  He will make the most fascinating, creative art projects out of the consumable products that we normally throw away.  It isn’t unusual in our home to see our children picking through our recyclables for supplies for their next project.

Today I’d like to share with you an upcycle craft project that we created for fall!  These adorable little pumpkins are perfect for kids to use to decorate their bedrooms for fall or to use at your upcoming Harvest party.  My kids thought this Upcycled Plastic Bottle Pumpkin Craft was adorable and so simple to make!

Supplies:

  • 2 empty plastic bottles
  • brown felt
  • orange tissue paper
  • scissors
  • tape
  • hot glue gun

Step #1

Cut the bottom off of 2 water bottles with scissors.  This will be the top and bottom of your plastic pumpkin.

Step #3

Lay down, sticky side up, a long piece of tape on a flat surface.  I like to use packaging tape because it is wider.  Put both the top and bottom plastic pumpkin halves together.  Hold the halves tightly with both hands and slowly roll your plastic pumpkin along the piece of tape, to close up your pumpkin. Press the edges of the tape down to close it up tightly.

Step #4

Cut a small brown square out of felt.  Roll the felt piece into the shape of a pumpkin stem, securing it with a hot glue gun (this step is for adults only).
