This classic apple and sausage stuffing recipe is a crowd-pleasing Thanksgiving side dish that's loaded up with vegetables, fruit, and savory sage sausage.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb sage sausage*
  • 1 onion diced
  • 2 carrots diced
  • 2 ribs celery diced
  • 2 tsp poultry seasoning
  • 1 granny smith apple peeled and diced
  • 3 cup stuffing mix or bread cubes
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 ⁄2 cup dried cranberries
  • 1 egg

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Spray a 9x13 baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.
  • Cook sausage in pan, stirring to crumble. Add onion, carrots, celery and poultry seasoning. Cook for 5­7 minutes or until vegetables are softened.
  • In a large bowl, combine sausage mixture, apple, stuffing mix, chicken broth, cranberries and egg. Stir to combine. Pour into prepared baking sheet. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  • Remove foil and bake for an additional 5 minutes.
  • If you can’t locate sage sausage, use ground Italian sausage and season with 1 tsp sage.
