Slow Cooker Beer BBQ Chicken

  • 4 ­-5 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 4 ounces beer any type (I like a lager)
  • 1 1 ⁄2 cups BBQ sauce any type (I like sweet & spicy)
  • 1 ⁄2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • 1 ⁄4 tsp salt
  • 1 ⁄4 tsp black pepper
  • whole wheat rolls or buns


  • 1. Add onion, beer, BBQ sauce, onion powder, paprika, garlic, salt, and pepper to slow cooker; whisk slowly to combine (the beer may get really frothy here ­ it’s okay). Add the chicken and spoon the sauce over the top. Cover and cook on low for 7 hours or high for 5 hours.
  • 2. Remove chicken from slow cooker, and using 2 forks shred the chicken. Add back to the slow cooker and stir chicken into sauce. Spoon about 1⁄2 cup of chicken into buns and serve immediately!
