Like many of you, I am very active on social media – connecting with my friends and making new ones on Facebook, Twitter, and Google Plus. As great as that is, few can deny how great it feels to receive an unexpected card or handwritten note from a loved one. Just knowing they took the time to send something personal your way can make you feel really special – even if it’s just a simple “hello,” “I miss you” or “remember when…”. With all the instant communication technology at our fingertips, many of us have lost practice in the art of letter writing. For this reason, I hope you’ll join me for the Hallmark Get Carded Challenge.
Send 7 cards in 7 days to 7 special people in your life. Tell them how much they mean, how much you miss them, how you’ll never forget that time…
The Get Carded Challenge is such a fun way for people to connect and reconnect with loved ones, whether it’s a friend, old roommate, neighbor or even your kids. Just send a card a day for 7 days and get reconnected with your friends and family.
My first two cards have been sent. The first is to my very dear friend, Lynda, whom I met approximately 17 years ago when we both newly moved to a very small town in Tennessee, following our husbands jobs. It was hard being an outsider in a small town, but sons about the same age and many common interests, Lynda and I became fast friends. Before we knew it we were part of the community and cooking Wednesday night supper together, for our fellow church memories each week. I was so thrilled when Lynda and her husband recently paid me a visit here in Tennessee. I have to admit that I am not the best about keeping in touch with my long distance friends, so this challenge is the kick in the rear that I really needed.
My second card went out to one of my most dearly missed co-workers, Jen, who lives in Florida. When I worked for the telephone company for almost 15 years, I had the privilege to work with a fabulous group of folks who made work a fun place to be each day. Although I wouldn’t trade working from home right now, I sure do miss Jen and my other friends from the workplace.
