Parade Wand 4th of July Craft for Kids

Many of us will celebrate Independence Day with a backyard bbq, some fireworks, and maybe even a parade. Going to the parade has always been a favorite way for my family to celebrate the holiday. I always love seeing all the flags waving in the crowd, as the marching bands and floats go down the street. This year we’ll be waving something a little different in the air, thanks to this fun 4th of July Parade Wand Craft project we did earlier in the week.

This is a very simple craft for kids, using things you probably already have stashed away in the craft box.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

wooden dowels
adhesive foam glitter sheets or construction paper
patriotic ribbon, cut into strips
star shaped template or cookie cutter
craft glue
scissors

Using a star shaped template or cookie cutter as a guide, trace and cut stars from the foam sheets or construction paper. You will need two stars per wand.

Next, cut several pieces of ribbon for each wand, about 3-4 inches long. Put a small amount of glue onto the back of one star, and place one end of each piece of ribbon onto the back of star that has been dotted with glue.

Take one star and dab one side with a small amount of craft glue. Put the tip of one dowel, and the ends of several pieces of ribbon into the back of the star shape. Put some glue on the back of a second star and place it onto the first star, pressing and holding firmly together for a couple of minutes to hold the dowel and ribbons in place.

Optionally, embellish with some smaller stars once the glue has set.
