After battling traffic, deadlines and carpool all day, you deserve an indulgence. But with dinner to prepare and homework to check it’s not always easy or practical to plan a weekend escape or even soak in a hot bubble bath. You need simple ways to indulge yourself. I’m not talking about eating your way through a box of cookies. Rather, do something that provides instant gratification without leaving you feeling guilty.
5 Simple Ways to Indulge Yourself Guilt-Free
Take your exercise outside. Skip the gym and go for a walk through the woods or on your favorite trails instead. Take the kids for a walk around the block or on a family bicycle ride. Exercising in nature is good boost for both your physical and mental health. I enjoy taking the dogs for a walk.
Tickle your funny bone. Laughing does wonders for relieving stress. Listen to a comedy show on Sirius Radio during your commute home or watch your favorite prime time comedy on television. Engage in telling jokes with your children. Knock Knock Jokes are always a hit with kids. The sound of your child’s giggles is sure to boost your mood.
Listen to your favorite tunes. Whether it’s the soothing sound of the ocean or your favorite hits from the 80’s, listening to music can do wonders to lift your spirit. It might even turn into an impromptu dance party with the family. That’s always fun!
Breathe in a soothing scent. Rub a few drops of essential oils into your hands, and then cup your hands over your face and slowly breath in. Take a moment and continue to breath in and out – nice and slow. Bergamot, lavender or chamomile are all soothing scents. Choose a scent that you enjoy. Lavender does wonders for me.
