This Valentine’s Day craft project brought together three of my loves: upcycling, washi tape, and my curiously strong addiction to Altoids. Over the years I’ve tossed a lot of Altoid tins into the trash, so I started saving them up and have been thinking of ways to reuse them. Pick Your Plum and Consumer Crafts have both recently had fantastic sales on washi tape, so I have been stocking up. A lot.
These sweet, quirky little Valentine tins can be filled with Conversation Hearts or your favorite Valentine’s Day treat.
Altoid Tin Makeover for Valentine’s Day
Here’s What You’ll Need:
Altoid tin
assortment of washi tape
white acrylic paing and brush
Directions:
Paint the lid of the Altoid tin and allow to dry completely.
Place a strip of washi tape around the base of the tin. The tape will be slightly wider than the base of the tin, so just press and stick the excess onto the bottom of the tin. There is no need to cut it to fit.
Cut or tear pieces of tape, in a variety of designs, that will fit across the top of the lid. Press into place.
Fill with your favorite Valentine’s Day candy and give to your sweetheart!
This project couldn’t be any simpler and is so inexpensive to make. I just love making homemade Valentines, and think these will make sweet gifts for a few of my friends.
I would love to see some of your homemade Valentines! Feel free to link them up below.
Just linked up! This is such a cute idea – I never thought to decorate the tin, but I would wash it out and keep money inside or pass notes with it!
What a cute idea! And something anyone can do!
What an adorable idea!!! Too fun and cute!
So cute and what a great way to recycle!
Adorable- great use of upcycling!
Great way to repurpose/reuse Altoids tins. Have never used washi tape, looks like fun.
Such an awesome and simple idea!
Really cute idea! I think I would also line the inside of the tin with pretty craft paper or a piece of red velvet material!
awww… that is cute! I admire anyone who is crafty…. I don’t seem to have a creative bone in my body 🙂
This is such a cute idea! I’m going to try this with my Grands as little Valentine’s gifts for their parents. I know Mommy and Daddy would love them!
