I have always wanted to do an elaborate candy centerpiece or table for Christmas. I am guilty of having a bit of a sweet tooth, so this appeals to me on so many different levels. There’s nothing like a candy shop to bring out the kid in all of us. Although a bit of a tedious project, I’m super pleased with how this Candy Christmas Trees Holiday Centerpiece turned out.
On this project, I was totally winging it and ended up with too much of some things and making a second trip to the store for others. I’ll share with you exactly what I used, so you will have just what you need without any waste. There is no skill involved in making these candy Christmas trees, just a little bit of patience. I probably spent about 2 1/2 hours on this project, but it was well worth it.
I had considered making these edible by covering the cones with plastic and using a butter cream icing as the glue, but decided to go the hot glue gun route instead in hopes that they’ll last a little longer.
Here’s What You’ll Need
hot glue gun and plenty of glue sticks
15 inch styrofoam cone
8 7/8 inch styrofoam cone
6 inch styrofoam cone
1/2 of a 12.6 ounce package M&M’s
3 (9.5 ounce) bags spice drops
2 (34.5 ounce) soft peppermints (I used about 1 1/2 tubs)
Beginning at the bottom of each cone, using a hot glue gun, glue on each piece of candy. Work your way all the way around the cone, then start with the next row of candy. Try to glue each piece of candy as closely together as possible. There will be some gaps, but don’t worry about that – it will look fine. I used green styrofoam cones, so this didn’t bother me so much. Continue until your cones are covered completely. Like I said… this is a very simple project, just a little time consuming.

Sacrilege!!! I think my husband and daughters (the boy is too young for candy yet) would all divorce me and kick me out of the house if I made m & m’s inedible. These are super adorable though, and I’d definitely be willing to do them with the icing instead! They def. wouldn’t last long in this house though! Heck, even using glue I’d have to put them up really really high or my two year old would probably have them half-gone inside of 10mins.
I use to make these gumdrop trees with my grandmother at christmas time…..so many special memories of crafting with her. Oh and by the way my girlfriend and I just made several of the gumdrop trees last week!…LOL
