The kids are out of school this week and super excited for Christmas! With that comes some down time, rowdy time, and overall kids getting bored at home while they wait on Christmas. What’s a mom to do in this situation? I say…fun, easy, hands-on craft!
What’s great about this DIY Christmas Tree Clay Ornament project is…not only does it keep your children busy, but it’s also the perfect gift for someone special on Christmas day!
Did I mention that it only takes 3 ingredients and 5 minutes to make?! Let’s get started!
Supplies to Make the Clay:
Steps to Make the Clay:
Prepare the Clay:
Use a straw to punch a hole through the top of your Christmas tree, so you can thread ribbon through it for hanging.
Time for Creativity:
We used a variety of crafting supplies that we had on hand like beads, buttons, tiny letters, and confetti. The possibilities are endless.
TIP: Be sure to press the decorations lightly into the clay so that they stay in place once dried.
Drying your Christmas Trees:
- Set oven on low (I did 200 degrees)
- Place Christmas Trees on a cookie sheet
- Put creations in the oven on low heat for a couple of hours
{If you choose to not bake them, then leave them out on your counter over night to dry by morning}
Finishing Touches:
Once your Christmas Trees are dry, you can thread your ribbon and hang them up.
Tip: If some of your crafting pieces weren’t pressed into your ornament enough and fell off once dried, just add a dab of hot glue and voila! Problem solved and no more kid-tears.
We made our Christmas Tree Clay Ornaments as gifts and we can’t wait to give them to our loved ones on Christmas!

That’s too funny, Michael! My kiddos were very involved in making these ornaments and therefore, they knew not to eat them. They thought baking soda and corn starch didn’t look very appetizing. 😉
