I am so very proud of my grandson, Nathaniel. Just a couple of months ago he graduated top of his class, and what makes it even more special is that he was the youngest to graduate at age sixteen. Nathaniel is a very bright young man and has decided to pursue a nursing degree. Because of his young age, he’ll be making the hour commute to college from home each day. With the first day of class just over a week away, we headed out the other day to grab some last minute college freshman essentials at Dollar General.
Since Nathaniel is not staying on campus, the items we picked up will help him in class. I tried to steer him towards a new alarm clock, but he said his phone is good enough. I think I’ll be heading back up to Dollar General later this week to pick one up for him anyways. You can never be too careful after all, and it’s important to be prompt.
Our Dollar General store had many great items for college students. We picked up a stylus for Nathaniel to use with his tablet. He’ll be using it for taking notes on in class. We also grabbed a flash drive, calculator, and composition book. I hadn’t realized before that Dollar General carries so many tech gadgets.
I was surprised by how much we got for our $20 budget. Luckily, Dollar General has great everyday low prices. Check out all these great school supplies!
I am proud of what a savvy shopper my grandson has become. For every item we looked at, he made sure he was getting the best value in the store. He’s earned it honest, because both his mom and I are very frugal and use coupons whenever possible. I think his newfound penny pinching attitude has been amplified by the fact that he has earned his own money for the first time working over the summer working as a lifeguard. It’s amazing how difficult it is to hand over those hard earned dollars, when you’ve actually done the hard work to earn them. This isn’t something his two younger sisters have yet to appreciate.
Dollar General has everything your college student might need from pots and pans, to dorm decor, school supplies, food and cleaning supplies. I recommend stopping by your neighborhood Dollar General store to check out all the great DG Dorm Essentials.

We love shopping at dollar general and what a great thing to graduate at 16!
Oh I’ll be in that same boat next summer at this time as our daughter is a High School Senior. We’re about 45 minutes away from the university she will attend too, but I think she’ll end up living on campus to give her extra time to study (cough, cough).
Congratulations to your grandson!
Congratulations! Nursing school is hard work, but I imagine he will get through quite fine.
Yes, an alarm for sure!!

Yep, that’s the time when they realize they really have to stretch a buck. Great place to go to shop!
