Disney Star Darlings Inspired Glow Jar Craft

Wishes are a powerful thing. The Disney Star Darlings series, released last fall, does a beautiful job of tapping into the hopes and dreams and heartfelt wishes that all young girls have. It is a magical and wonderfully inspiring set of books geared towards girls ages 8 – 12. My niece, Maddie, and I were so excited to receive the next four installments in the Star Darlings tween book series, and I have partnered with Disney Press to share them with you, along with an exciting reader giveaway. In honor of the Starlings we have come to love, we have a super fun glow jar craft to share with you too. I’m totally obsessed with these sparkling light up jars!

CASSIE COMES THROUGH
Starf! The day Cassie has been dreading since she first arrived at Starling Academy is here. She has been chosen to make the journey to Wishworld for the next Wish Mission. Lady Stella, the headmistress, assures her she’s going to do a starmendous job.

Cassie is so sensitive and perceptive she’ll be a natural! But her mission is even harder than she feared. Everything just seems all wrong. And there’s no help in sight. Could Cassie be the first Star Darling who simply can’t make her Wisher’s wish come true?

PIPER’S PERFECT DREAM
Mysterious things continue to happen on Starland every day as the girls wait to see who will go on the next Wish Mission. Piper has a dream that she will be the one and indeed she is. Piper has a lot to learn when she finds herself working at a diner.

Confident that she’s identified her Wisher’s wish, Piper enjoys her time on Wishworld. But as her Countdown Clock ticks away can she dismiss her earlier assumptions and discover the true wish?

ASTRA’S MIXED-UP MISSIONS
Life on Starland is anything but normal these days. The Star Darlings continue to experience mysterious phenomena while trying to focus on their studies and maintain their cover.

Stat athlete Astra is chosen for the next Wish Mission. Her overconfident nature leads her to quick conclusions about her Wisher’s true wish. Can Astra put aside her own interests and assumptions and help Emma before time runs out?

TESSA’S LOST & FOUND
As more and more disturbing things happen on Starland, the Star Darlings try to unravel clues to what’s going on. One theory is that Lady Stella herself is behind all the trouble.

Tessa is selected to travel to Wishworld where she finds herself in a spot that’s perfect for her—an animal shelter. When a terrible storm hits, Tessa and her Wisher, Lizzie, must work together to take care of the helpless animals in the shelter, while Tessa tries to discover Lizzie-s real wish and help grant it before time runs out.

STAR DARLINGS GLOW JAR CRAFT

Starlings have so many wishes and dreams. They are very good friends and love to celebrate, and they take almost any opportunity to have a stellar celebration. Our glow jar craft was inspired by a very special Starlings Light Giving Day tradition that we read about in Star Darlings: A Wisher’s Guide to Starland. On the first day of the Time of New Beginnings, Starlings exchange glowing gifts with one another. Community picnics and games mark the occasion and celebrate the return of longer, warmer days.

These glow jars are essentially made the same as snow globes, but with the added twist of a submersible light. I came across these submersible lights a while back when my mom and I were surfing Amazon for my nephew’s upcoming wedding, and they worked perfectly for this glow jar craft. A picture of our supplies are below. Please disregard the paints you see in the background. We were doing a lot of crafting on this day.

Glow Jar Craft

Supplies:

small jars or bottles with tight fitting lids
submersible LED tea lights
adhesive putty
glitter and or foil confetti
water
glycerin

Directions:

Place the light inside the jar. You’ll want to smash a small piece of molding putty onto the bottom of the light. Then gently press it into the bottom of the jar. You might need to use something like the eraser end of a pencil to push into place.

Fill each jar half way full with tap water.

Add several drops of glycerin.

Sprinkle in about a teaspoon or so of glitter. We included foil confetti in one of ours, but I like the ones with just glitter much better.

Next, fill the jar with more water, but not to the top. Leave about a quarter-inch gap at the top. Tightly seal your jar and shake.

These glow jars are so simple and fun to make. The submersible LED tea lights have a battery life of up to 16 hours, so make sure you enjoy them right away.
