Much like athletes, kids need to fuel their bodies to do things like running, skipping, jumping, and playing. After a long day at school, my granddaughters come home feeling pretty tired. This is especially so on days when they have an extracurricular activities after school, such as a 4H meeting. They’ve turned into bottomless pits as teenagers, so having a fun energy filled snack on hand after school is important.

A Fun Energy Filled Snack for Kids

With it getting dark so early, the girls like to spend a little time outside first thing after school. Then it’s time for a quick snack and homework.

A homemade trail mix made with Kellogg’s Corn Flakes, dried fruit and nuts is a great snack to give kids the fuel that they need, between meals. I like to keep a variety of dried fruit and nuts on hand for snacking, and I love the crunch that the cereal adds to a trail mix.

Kellogg's Great Starts Trail Mix is a Fun Energy Filled Snack

A Fun Energy Filled Snack for Kids

ingredients:

1 cup dried pineapple chunks
1 cup yogurt covered raisins
1 cup dried banana chips
2 cups mixed nuts
2 cups Kellogg’s Corn Flakes

Add all ingredients to a bowl, and stir to combine.

Kellogg’s cereals are such a nice addition to homemade snacks and trail mixes. They add a nice crunch, not to mention important vitamins and minerals. You could easily substitute Kellogg’s All Bran or Kellogg’s Crispix for the Corn Flakes in this recipe.

My granddaughter, Becca, is always such a big help in the kitchen.

I have found that the kids are more likely to eat the snacks I want them to eat when they are presented to them in a fun way. This printable Kellogg’s snack holder is a simple way make snack time more special and fun. Plus, it’s a great way to make snacks portable for kids on the go.

To make these fun Kellogg’s snack holders you just have to print, cut and fold. I recommend using a heavier paper such as card stock, but standard copy paper will work just fine. Follow the diagram at the top and cut around the border to make a square. Fold according to the directions, to make a snack cup. My granddaughters colored a few of ours before folding. Just be sure that you are using non-toxic crayons.
