With Father’s Day coming up, now is the perfect time to recognize some some heroes… single moms.

Being a single mom has its challenges, but with those challenges come many great rewards. I remember some of the challenges my own mom faced as a single parent. I have so much admiration and respect for her. Mostly, what I remember though, is how much love and happiness was in our home.

I become a single mom too when my son was quite young. Heck, I was practically a baby myself when I had him. Being a young, single mom, I made the best of it and it was pretty spectacular. Baking cupcakes, nursing boo boos, ball practice in the back yard and playing GI Joe were all part of my job description.

As my son got older, it became even more tricky. I have to giggle when I think back on how nervous I was over teaching my son about the birds and the bees, or the dos and don’ts of dating. I felt so ill equipped, and yet, somehow, it all worked out.

Don’t laugh at my hair. Okay, you can laugh it’s pretty ridiculous. I had to search high and low to find some old pics of my son and I to share with you. As a single mom, I was always the one behind the camera so I didn’t end up in many of the pictures.

Be Soft. Be Strong.

Single motherhood is a constant balancing act. A single mom is the disciplinarian when I needed and a soft lap to cry on when your child is hurting. You have to be soft one minute and hard the next.

Having a child rely on you so fully for everything can be really scary. But there is an unbreakable bond that forms. One like no other. Something you wouldn’t trade for anything in the world.

Happy Father's Day to Single Moms

Happy Father’s Day, Mom.

Each year on Father’s Day my son lets me know how much he appreciates that role of fatherhood that I took on for him. He is such a sweet boy. I did so much right with that kid. Hearing those words “Happy Father’s Day, Mom” means a lot to me.

I wouldn’t trade being a single mom for anything. My son and I have such a close relationship now, and I have so much pride in knowing how instrumental I was in helping him become the amazing man he is now.

My (big) baby boy. We’ve come a long way together.

Happy Father's Day to Single Moms

Dad’s totally deserve their special day, but there is an unsung hero on Father’s Day. This Father’s Day is the perfect time to recognize the single mom’s you know.

Life is a constant balancing act.

Happy Father’s Day to single moms!

Do you know a single mom who deserves to be celebrated this Father’s Day?
