Making a rag wreath for the holidays couldn’t be any simpler. It’s actually so easy to make, that there isn’t much to say about it. This project is a great use for any scrap fabric you may have, or you can do like me and purchase some holiday fabric from your local fabric store.
I used a 12″ Wire Wreath Frame like this one on Amazon for $5.98, although you could find one at your local craft store. If you want to be very thrifty, I’ve also seen where people have used a wire coat hanger shaped into a circle. But I wanted mine to be more full, so I went with the wreath frame. To get it super full, I used 4 yards of fabric, 1 yard each of 4 coordinating holiday colors. However, you could easily get by using much less fabric. Now that it’s done, I’m thinking it would have been cute to add some ribbon to it… for next time.
Begin by cutting or tearing your fabric into 12 inch by 1 inch pieces. They don’t have to be exact. Once you have your fabric strips ready, it’s time to start tying them onto the wreath frame. Simply tie each strip onto the frame, using a basic knot. Repeat this process until your wreath is complete and at your desired fullness. Easy peasy!
It doesn’t take long to make. I mad this wreath while watching NCIS and NCIS Los Angeles the other night. I love a project like this that doesn’t require much thought, and can be done while watching television.
What do you think? What holiday craft projects do you have planned?
This is a pretty nifty idea thank you! I’ve been thinking about buying one but I may just make my own!
We have done this and it came out so wonderful.
This is a very good idea and is also very cute. I may try to make one of these this year. Thanks for this tip.
I love this idea!
this is so cute! So much cheaper than buying one also. This is perfect because my family and I were looking for a Christmas project
How darling! I love it! Oh I so wish I was crafty & could make things like that! I just might have to give it try & test my craftiness, lol!
Pretty Idea, thanks.
