Reading is important because it not only gives us knowledge and develops our minds, but also because it enhances our imagination. Books have the ability to transport us to far-away places, and help us to dream the impossible. For me, reading also works as stress reducer. I’m excited to partner with Simon Spotlight, a division of Simon & Schuster, to tell you about the Ready-to-Read series for kids, offering leveled books for every young reader. Even reluctant readers will enjoy the exciting nonfiction, beloved characters and fan favorites of this series.

The Ready-to-Read series for kids from Simon & Schuster offers leveled books for every young reader. Even reluctant readers will enjoy the exciting nonfiction, beloved characters and fan favorites of this series.

The Ready-to-Read series is recommended for ages 4-10 and broken down into five reading levels that help develop young readers. With these fun “Star” levels, kids and parents can utilize the easy to understand system to bolster confidence as they move through the levels at their own pace.

I was so happy last year when my daughter realized how much she also enjoys reading, though it wasn’t until fourth grade when she discovered her love of books. I think it had a lot to do with just finding the right books for her, at a reading level where she felt confident. She loves to read about science or a good mystery or adventure just like me. Now, at age 10, she’s a Megastar Reader and able to easily read books from Ready-to-Read: Level Three.

We just finished reading three titles from the Megastar Reader Level:

  • Looking Up! The Science of Stargazing from the Science of Fun Stuff series
  • The Great American Story of Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the Peanuts Gang! from the History of Fun Stuff series
  • Lin-Manuel Miranda from the You Should Meet series

My T wants to be a space scientist when she grows up, so she especially enjoyed the book about stargazing which, includes a special section on the 2017 Total Solar Eclipse. Watching that eclipse last year was such a big deal for her. I love that this book includes a current event like this that she can relate to.

Speaking of current events, I was ecstatic when we got the book about Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote Hamilton, one of the most popular Broadway musicals of all time. He worked very hard to make his dreams come true, and his story is a great inspiration for children.

I think I may have enjoyed reading The Great American Story of Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the Peanuts Gang! as much as my 10-year-old.

I am so impressed by the stories, illustrations, variety of books, and the series as a whole. The books are affordable too! T and I enjoyed the three books that we received to review so much that we’ve already visited ReadytoRead.com and ordered more titles. T will surely be reading You Can’t Bring a Sandwich to the Moon . . . and Other Stories about Space! as soon as it arrives.

More About Ready-to-Read

All Ready-to-Read titles have been vetted by educational experts to adhere to the latest reading guidelines, and each level is designed to help children confidently grasp new reading concepts. Every title utilizes concepts such as sight words, shorter lengths, word families, rhyming, and contains a guide at the beginning of each book to prepare children for the story ahead. Fun reading comprehension questions at the end of each story help children to re-engage with the text and better understand it.

Ready-to-Read brings the focus back to fun while still offering parents and educators well crafted, imaginative stories and engaging nonfiction. Beloved characters from authors like Doreen Cronin and Eric Carle will delight fans of traditional picture books. Stories from fan favorites like Daniel Tiger, the PJ Masks, and the Peanuts will get kids excited to read about their adventures. Unique and accessible nonfiction series such as “You Should Meet,” and “Living In…” explore the influential people in our world, and take readers around the globe to read about different cultures. Ready-to-Read has something for everyone, and even reluctant readers will enjoy the easy format and fun stories.

Do you have a reading superstar who would enjoy the Ready-to-Read series?
