St. Patrick’s Day Shamrock Art Project

Guest AuthorBy Guest Author

My salad spinner has never gotten a lot of use. The kids find it every so often and love to put little toys in it and take them for spin. It has provided some good entertainment over the years as I prepare dinner.

We used the salad spinner a few months ago to do some fun painting and decided to use it to make a Shamrock Art Project for St. Patrick’s Day.

I love how these shamrocks turned out. The process of making them was a lot of fun and really easy. I’m not sure what it is about pushing down on the button and spinning the bowl, but the kids love it!

Supplies:

  • Salad spinner
  • Paint
  • Shamrock template
  • White cardstock

Directions:

1. Print shamrock template on card stock.

2. Cut the shamrock out and place it inside the salad spinner.

3. Pour paint onto the shamrock. We used two different colors of green.

4. Put the lid on the bowl and spin. Stop and check your shamrock. You may need to add more paint. Make sure your shamrock is still laying flat.

5. Once you are happy with your shamrock, remove it from the salad spinner and allow to dry.

Other variations of this project:

  • Make a rainbow colored shamrock
  • Add gold glitter to your green shamrock

Note: We used acrylic paint, because I had them handy. We then got busy and the salad spinner did not get washed until several hours later. I was able to get it cleaned, but it took some scrubbing. If you use acrylic paints, I would suggest washing right away. Washable tempera paints work great too.
