This post brought to you by Gro-ables. All opinions are 100% mine.
I have never been able to boast about having a green thumb when it comes to outdoor gardening. But in recent years I have had some great success with a patio herb garden. It has been so nice having fresh herbs on hand for cooking. I love to make fresh pesto sauce with my basil, and like to use variety of herbs for homemade salad dressing. Beyond my patio herb garden though, I haven’t had much luck with gardening. I am so excited to try the brand new Gro-ables from Miracle Gro this Spring. My plans are to grow a patio salad and herb garden that will provide all the ingredients to feed my family fresh and delicious salads.
For growing the lettuces and spinach, I picked up a few rectangular shaped planters. I’ll continue to use round terra cotta pots in a variety of sizes for my herbs and other salad ingredients. I am eager to begin planting the Gro-ables as soon as the last threat of a freeze has passed. I’m thinking that will be very soon.
Gro-ables is a brand new product from Miracle Gro – a pre-packaged seed pod that makes it incredibly easy to grow your own herbs and veggies from seed. It’s perfect for people who are new to gardening but have always wanted to try growing their own food, or those like myself who haven’t had much success in the past. I think the ready-to-go pods would be great for kids interested in growing an edible garden. The affordable seed pods ($1.29 – $1.49 per seed pod – depending on market) are designed to simplify the growing process so it’s not overwhelming or confusing. I love that they are guaranteed to grow, when used as directed.
Since the focus of my patio garden is on herbs and vegetables for salad, I thought I would share just how simple it is to make a basic vinaigrette with fresh herbs for your home grown salads. I hope this inspires you to start your own garden.
Basic Vinaigrette Recipe
ingredients:
¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
½ teaspoon dijon style mustard
1 clove garlic, minced
¾ teaspoon fresh herbs, chopped
¾ teaspoon salt
pinch of black pepper
Preparation is simple. In a jar, with a tight fitting lid, combine all the ingredients. Shake until combined and refrigerate. You’ll want to give it a shake before serving. Pour over your favorite salad greens. I love mixing it up by using a variety of fresh herbs in my salad dressing. Thyme, Basil, Dill, Parsley, and Cilantro all work well.
It seems that Gro-ables from Miracle Gro take the guesswork out of gardening and growing your own food. They are perfect for a patio garden like mine or a larger outdoor garden. I’m looking forward to a patio garden filled with edibles for my family this Spring and Summer, and cannot wait to give you a status update on the garden.
Are you planning an edible garden for the Spring?
These seed pods will make gardening so much easier. What a great idea. I’ll be planting tomatoes and cilantro for a salsa garden this year.
Up until now the only thing I’ve ever grown is flowers. Seeing how easy these Gro-Ables are, however, I just may try to do some herbs this year. Gotta get to shopping!
I’ve been really tempted to grow something this year but I’m not good with gardening at all. But I do love the idea of growing my own food and knowing exactly where it came from.
That’s what I’m loving about it! I’d love to know it was right in my backyard.
What a great idea. We love the Gro-ables. They are easy, convenient and work!
Oh wow, these are so cool, I had no idea they sold these. I think even I could make them grow.
The only thing I was able to keep alive last year was our basil! IT sure was tasty.
Great reminder. Last year I didn’t think about it early enough and missed the right time to plant tomatoes.
Herb gardens could be fun! And they could save some money too!
i wish i had a garden. i would totally try this. I wish it worked indoors
This is a great idea. I’d love to grow my own salads!
