How did you like that stroll through historic downtown Charleston?

Earlier this month, I took my nieces on a mini spring break trip to Charleston, SC. With only 3 days in downtown Charleston, I scheduled some tours to help us see as much of the city as possible during our short visit. On the first morning we embarked on a 2-hour stroll through historic, Charleston with Charleston Strolls.

Charleston Strolls walking tours began in 1979 offering the first daily walking tour of Charleston’s historic district. They really know their stuff. In fact, our amazing and knowledgeable tour guide has been certified to give tours in Charleston for 27 years.

The tour conveniently begins in the lobby of The Mills House hotel, where we happened to be staying. Our guide took us through the streets of downtown Charleston, down to the famed Charleston Battery and back. We went through both business and residential areas. I felt a bit like a voyeur snapping so many pics of the beautiful homes, but I just couldn’t help myself.

Our 2 hour walking tour provided plenty of photo opportunities, along with a wealth of Charleston history. If you are worried about walking for 2 hours, it might help you to know that there were plenty of stops along the way.

Early April turned out to be the perfect time to visit Charleston. The breeze off the bay was so pleasant, and spring flowers were blooming in every nook and cranny of the city.

Whether you frequent Charleston often or it’s your first time visiting the city, I highly recommend going on one of the Charleston Strolls daily walking tours. I have a feeling I’ll be doing this same tour again on my next visit.

Disclosure: Charleston Area Convention & Visitors Bureau provided me with a VIP City Pass which included admission to this tour.

  • Great photos! I took my father to Charleston last September and we both loved it. Had the best southern food in my life while staying there.

  • I live an hour from Charleston, and have yet to take this stroll. I’m going to have to add it to my list of things to do with my kids during our Friday Field Trips. These are some gorgeous pictures. Thank you for sharing your experience with us through your photos.

If you ever come back in this area, I’d love the chance to meet you.

    • Hi Crystal! Thank you for your nice words. I’m sure to be visiting Charleston again, hopefully in early spring. It would be great to meet up. If you have a chance to do this walking tour, I highly recommend it.

  • We thought we were going to visit Charleston last late spring but ended up taking a different trip instead, we definitely still intend to go!
