It was probably a week before the school year ended when the panic set in. What would mom and I do to help keep the girls busy this summer? When I was contacted by Michaels to sign the Unplugged Summer Pact and participate in a Summer Mom Blogger Challenge, I felt so much relief. Through the Passport to Imagination classes offering summer crafts for kids at Michaels stores, my nieces would not only have fun crafting all summer long, but would also learn about different places and cultures.
I love it when learning and fun go hand in hand!
Summer Crafts for Kids
While we were at Michaels, I stocked up on some craft supplies like ribbon, craft foam and duct tape. If you look closely at the pic above, you’ll see some Justin Bieber tape that my niece Becca just had to have. Sometime next week we’ll be sharing our duct tape craft project on the blog. It’s a lot of fun!
You may have seen my blog post from earlier in the week showing how much fun we had at our first Passport to Imagination class. We learned about South America, learned how to do textile weaving from Bolivia, and made an Easter Island Moai statue out of clay.
Our At-Home Project from that class was to make a Brazil Headdress like the ones worn to Carnival. Like with most projects we do, we didn’t follow the directions exactly – rather used it as inspiration for our own craft. You can see a picture of the Brazil Headdress sample project on the Michaels web site.
Here’s What You Need To Make It:
Creatology Foam Visor
Creatology Craft Foam, Sticky-Back (I love this stuff!)
Creatology Feathers
Elmer’s Glue
Use shapes cut from sticky-back foam to decorate your headdress. Glue feathers to the top back of the visor, and allow to dry.

Want more summer crafts for kids? There’s still plenty of time for summer crafting at Michaels with Passport to Imagination. Classes run 3 times a week through August 2nd, and are open to kids age 5 and up.  Cost is $2 per class, per child. Space is limited, so be sure to check out the class schedule and find a store near you to register. Happy crafting!
* Many thanks to Michaels for sponsoring my family to attend Passport to Imagination this summer.
Now this looks super cool! I love that they are making learning fun!
I love Michael’s. They are my go to craft shop!
nice project for the kids to have
wish my boys were more crafty
What a fun program they have going on. If the boys and I were home right now, we would definitely be doing it.
Such a cute, easy and festive craft project!
I think it is great that Michaels has this wonderful summer project that will both entertain and educate the kids about the cultures in different parts of the world
I love Michaels for all our crafting needs!
I love those themes! Thank you so much for posting those!
You always inspire to craft! This would be a great idea for a birthday party or sleepover or just get a bunch of the kids together and let them have fun creating and away from the screen of whatever electronic device they have! Thank you so much ~ you’ve done it again!
Thank you so much for your kind words, Robin. Laura and I both appreciate it.
