Ways to Inspire Your Kids to Dream Big

With youth comes much optimism and endless possibilities. Children believe anything is possible and options for the future are limited only by their imagination. As parents we have the power to crush or build up our kids’ dreams. As a mom, I want my children to dream big and explore all possibilities. I don’t want to stifle their creativity, I want them to believe in themselves and that anything is possible.

I want them to think big, dream big and shoot for the stars.

Our children have a lifetime ahead of them and who knows what might be possible. Will my daughter be the future of space travel, will she become the next Picasso or Mozart or great explorer? Why not? And, what can I do to help her dream big and achieve her goals?

As a mom, I am incredibly happy to see my son’s passions come to fruition and see him in his dream job in the automotive industry. He was obsessed with cars, fast cars in particular, from a very young age. Before he was old enough to drive a car, he was building them, and now he’s getting paid to do what he loves. Oh, the stories I could tell… like the morning I discovered canisters of Nitrous Oxide in the back of his car. But, for now I’ll share my ideas for ways to inspire your kids to dream big.

Encourage them to pursue dreams that use their natural gifts.

I’m not yet sure which career path my 11-year-old will be going down. She’s currently obsessed with all things outer space and dreams about flight and space travel. I’m so pleased by her interest in STEM and have tried my best to help her explore this passion.

Sky gazing at night with her telescope is a favorite pastime.

Stargazing. Imagine how much better a place the world would be if we all dreamed like kids again and embraced our passions. Would you believe me, if I told you it's possible? It all starts by raising children who value the importance of their very own dreams. Here are some ways to inspire your kids to dream big.

Encourage their bucket list.

Last year she had the opportunity to co-pilot a jet through the Air Unlimited Junior Pilot Program.

And, for her last birthday she got to experience flying on a cushion of air at our local iFLY Indoor Skydiving facility.

Lead by example. Inspire your kids to dream by being a dream role-model.

Pursue your own dreams and passions. I like to think that I’m setting a good example for her by running my own digital media company. I work very hard, but also love what I do. Being my own boss gives me the flexibility I want to do more of the things that we love and explore.

Give them opportunities to explore and tinker.

T also has a natural ability when it comes to music and art. We’ve started cello lessons, and I make sure she has plenty of art supplies. We visit art museums whenever possible. One of T’s favorite things to do is hunt for buried treasure on the beach with her metal detector.

Be a family that dreams together and live life as an adventure.

Provide education.
