Italian Bread Recipe

In a small bowl, mix warm water, active dry yeast, and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.

Step 1

In a large bowl, mix 1 cup hot water, 2 teaspoons sugar, salt, and olive oil. Stir in 1 1/2 cups bread flour. Add the foamy yeast mixture and  the rest of the flour.

Step 2

Let rise for 1 hour. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and shape it into a long loaf by rolling it and tucking the ends under.

Let rise for 30 minutes. Preheat your oven to 375°F. Score the loaf and brush it with egg wash. Bake the bread for 20 to 25 minutes until the top is golden brown.
