During these hot summer months, we fire up the grill often at my house. The air conditioning is working hard already, without adding a hot oven to the situation. But just a few weeks into summer my gang started getting bored of the same old grilled burgers and hot dogs, so I decided to fire things up a bit with some grilled pizza. Homemade pizza is something my family does a lot, because where we live out in the country there is no such thing as pizza delivery service. Gasp! I know it’s hard to believe that we survive without Dominoes or Pizza Hut, but trust me when I say that making it yourself is so much better. Especially when you use Pillsbury Pizza Crust!

Grilled pizza is one of the simplest and most versatile foods that can be cooked on the grill. Simple thanks to Pillsbury Pizza Crust and versatile because of the great variety of toppings you can use.
You don’t need fancy stones or tools to make grilled pizza. Just follow these steps for how to grill pizza perfectly every time.
1. Oil the grill. While you’re waiting for the grill to get nice and hot, rub or brush on a little canola oil. This will ensure that your pizza will slide right off.
2. Spray a piece of heavy duty aluminum foil with some cooking spray. Unroll your Pillsbury Pizza Crust, right onto the greased aluminum foil.
3. When your grill is nice and hot, invert your dough onto the grill rack and peel off the foil. Use some tongs to pull up any edges that might have fallen between the grates of the grill.
4. Don’t walk away. It doesn’t take long for your pizza crust to get perfectly char-grilled crispy. Cook until the bottom of the dough has become golden brown – this only takes a few minutes. Once the bottom of the crust is golden brown, give it a flip using your tongs or spatula.
5. Once the pizza crust has been flipped, allow it to cook for just another minute or two then remove it to a cookie sheet or platter to add your toppings – it will continue to cook after you’ve added your toppings. Get ready to pile those toppings on!
6. Turn the temperature of your grill down a bit. Add your favorite toppings. Place the pizza back onto the grill, close the lid, and cook until your toppings are tender and your cheese is hot and bubbly.
This past weekend I made some vegetarian grilled pizzas for my family using Pillsbury Pizza Crust. Our first pizza was topped with bottled Alfredo sauce, baby spinach, mushrooms, and Mozzarella cheese. The second was a Margherita pizza made with goat cheese. We didn’t put any sauce on that one, rather brushed on some garlic infused olive oil and topped it with diced tomatoes, fresh basil from the garden, and crumbled goat cheese. These pizzas were a huge hit for both the kids and adults!

One of the things I love about making my own pizza is that it doesn’t have to be visually perfect. It just has to taste good. Don’t spend your time worrying if the edges are perfectly straight or round. The Pillsbury Pizza Crust rolls right out of the can in a rectangle shape making it super easy. No stretching, spinning or tossing the dough in the air required – although tossing the dough into the air can be fun. You can make grilled pizza using both gas and charcoal grills. This past weekend I was out of gas, so I fired up the charcoal grill and our pizza turned out perfectly.
What are your favorite grilled pizza toppings?

Grilling PIzza is on our Summer bucket list! We have just been so busy we haven’t had the chance to do it yet. But it is definitely something I want to do before the summer is over. It sounds delicious!
