I love this time of the year, when the market is filled with fresh salad greens and fixins. Bottled salad dressings are loaded with preservatives, so I prefer to use a homemade salad dressing.
Making your own salad dressing takes just minutes and can be made with few ingredients, yet still be flavorful and delicious.

This zesty homemade house dressing is one of my faves. I call it a house dressing because I make it so frequently. Plus, it’s just a basic creamy dressing with a bit of zip.
Zesty Homemade House Dressing
Ingredients:
3/4 cup cottage cheese
1 cup buttermilk
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
pinch of salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 scallion (green onion), chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
1 tablespoon chopped sun-dried tomato
You will also need something to store your dressing in after it is made. I love this glass salad dressing bottle because it is designed for salad dressing, as a bonus, it even has an Asian salad dressing recipe.
Method:
Place all of the ingredients in a blender. Pulse until smooth. Transfer to a small bowl, cover, and chill until ready to use. Recipe yields about 2 cups of salad dressing.
This salad dressing is zesty, but not overpowering. If you want to tone it down a bit, you can omit the garlic or sun-dried tomato or both.
