Chocolate Deviled Eggs, an Easter Dessert that Might Fool Some

These deviled eggs made from chocolate and buttercream icing are such a fun Easter dessert idea, though it seem more like an April Fool's joke for your guests. It truly is hard to tell that they aren't real eggs.

You’re not going to believe this Easter dessert. And, no, I didn’t put chocolate in my deviled eggs! I wouldn’t do that – okay, so maybe I would. But that’s not what this is. These Chocolate Deviled Eggs are just that… chocolate with a little yellow butter cream frosting for the yolks. Pretty cute, huh? This post contains affiliate links.

My mom recently showed me a picture of chocolate eggs from a magazine she was flipping through. I don’t recall which magazine, might have been Woman’s Day, but it gave me the idea to make these devilishly cute (pun intended) little treats. I think I’ll whip up another batch of these for Easter and play a little trick on our dinner guests, by placing a tray of these next the the real deviled eggs – won’t they be in for a surprise!

These were surprisingly easy to make. I used this half egg chocolate mold that I picked up from Amazon, but you might be able to find something similar at your local craft or cake supply store.

To make, simply melt some white chocolate or white candy melts in the microwave, according to package directions. Spoon the melted chocolate into the egg molds, being careful not to overfill. Once the molds are filled, gently tap the mold on the counter a few times to release any air bubbles. Place the mold in the refrigerator until set. This shouldn’t take more than thirty minutes, or so.

For the yolks, I whipped up a batch of my favorite buttercream icing and added several drops of yellow food coloring. Lastly, I piped on the yolks just like you would with ‘real’ deviled eggs, and sprinkled on some red sugar sprinkles for the paprika.

Did I fool you with these?

  • I know that the title was Chocolate Deviled Eggs – but when I looked at the picture of the deviled eggs. I thought to myself someone made a mistake on titling the post. That was until I read about and how it was made. I’ve always been the family member who was never asked to do Deviled Eggs because mine are not up to my families standards. I think I can use this recipe and hopefully have successful. These Chocolate Deviled Eggs look delicious – can’t wait to try the recipe.

  • I love this! How cute. I love the sweet take on a traditional appetizer. It’s awesome that it’s so easy to make. I could probably make this easier than Deviled eggs, as I’m not very good at making those.

  • What a “Sweet” idea!! (pun intended) Great idea with Easter coming up!! There will be a relatively small group of us for Easter this year, (only 6 or 7 people), so this would be so much fun to do for the group!! Since the mold makes 8 egg halves, one batch would be plenty for one each. ♥

  • This just gave me a horrible flashback lol. I was asked to participate in a recipe challenge for a company that provided us with chocolate pasta that we had to use to create a dessert that looked like a savory dish. I attempted a timpano. If you’re not familiar with that, it’s kind of a big bowl of dough (or lasagna noodles) filled with penne, meatballs, hard boiled eggs, etc. I think I used red velvet cake for the “meatballs.” For the eggs, I made marshmallow eggs and filled them with yellow cake yolks. It was a fun idea, but my execution was definitely lacking lol. [#TastyTuesdays]

  • I can barely type I’m so impressed! WOW what a fabulous idea! I was sure you had figured out some way to put chocolate (in some fashion) into regular deviled eggs to make them better! That’s how real they look! I am dying for you to swing by my new link party The Yuck Stops Here! It will end this week on Friday, April 4th at 8 pm EST and next weeks party will start at 8 pm EST next week on Monday, April 7th.
