Easy Popsicle Stick School Bus Craft for Kids

Easy Popsicle Stick School Bus Craft for Kids

Is it possible that it’s that time of the year already?!  Time for… Back to School!  Not only is it an exciting time for children as they get to shop for new clothes, backpacks and supplies but it’s also a joy for parents as they watch their little ones growing up and loving school!

One of my favorite ways to prepare for going back to school is to do back to school craft projects!  It sets the tone as we prepare for a new teacher, classroom and experiences. I also like that it’s a way for us to spend those final days together before they leave mama and head back to school.

My children LOVE to sing that favorite children’s song, “The Wheels on the Bus.”  Even my big kids belt it out at the top of their lungs when it comes on our media player.  This little song inspired our Easy Popsicle Stick School Bus Craft for Kids!  We hope you too will enjoy it while you spend these last summer days with your children before they head back to school.

SUPPLIES:

Easy Popsicle Stick School Bus Craft for Kids, Supplies

  • Yellow Washable Paints
  • Paint brush or Foam brush
  • Jumbo Craft Sticks
  • Popsicle Sticks
  • Black and White Construction Paper
  • Elmers Glue

We decided to use 5 jumbo craft sticks for the base of the school bus and 10 popsicle sticks for the top, just like in this picture:

ASSEMBLY:

Step #1

Paint all your sticks with a yellow washable paint.

Tip:  Put a piece of construction paper underneath your sticks while you paint to lessen your mess!

Step #2

Let your painted sticks dry for about 5-10 minutes.  We put ours outside and they dried even faster!

Step #3

Line up 5 jumbo craft sticks in a horizontal row for your base.  Then, very carefully apply a generous layer of Elmer’s glue to the bottom of your 10 popsicle sticks.  Hint: Use a q-tip to help apply glue to your popsicle sticks.  We also tried to do just a few popsicle sticks at a time so the paint wouldn’t dry before we could get them placed where we wanted them.

Step #4

Using the black construction paper, cut out 2 circles for wheels and then use the white construction paper to cut out 3 rectangles for the windows.

Use the same method with the glue and q-tips for adhering the school bus wheels and windows to your school bus creation!
