Haylie Pomroy is a celebrated nutritionist who has been on the New York Times bestselling list for her book The Fast Metabolism Diet. For the first time in any of her books, she shares her own personal story that lead her on the path to saving her life. She was born with crazy allergies that included food, contact and inhalation issues. She, also, suffers from an autoimmune disease called idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), which means she has a low platelet count because her body mistakenly attacks them. It leads to easy bruising and uncontrollable bruising. For some kids, this is something that they outgrow. For Haylie is a lifetime chronic condition. After dealing with these issues throughout her childhood, she was in a severe car accident in her 20’s that almost killed her. As a result, she developed reflex sympathetic dystophy (RSD), which her doctor wrote in her charts was the worse case he had ever seen. On the verge of being ready to turn her body in for the Lemon Law, she discovered, after suffering from 2 miscarriages, that her body did not process folic acid the way it should. All of these things led Haylie to look to food to heal her body, ease her pain and help be able to live a full and healthy life. It is no joke when I say, she knows what she is talking about.
Why this Book Matters to Me
See, I suffer from fibromyalgia. It basically means that I am in pain all of the time, suffer from crazy fatigue and horrible brain fog a lot of the time. It is just random thing that showed up after a car accident and had affected my life ever since. While they don’t know much about it, the doctors do know it is painful and debilitating. So when I read the issues that affect Haylie, I can relate.
If you are looking to disease-proof your life, or at the very least, live in optimal health, is is all about what you put into your body. Suffering with issues of my own, this is something that has not always come easy for me. It is hard to put yourself on the right path and sometimes, even harder to stay there. I have been trying the diet plans. I am trying to implement the ones to reduce inflammation and for energy. It is really hard to change the way I eat. I wish that was something she could teach me. It isn’t. All she can do is help me know what I should be doing and how I should be eating. I notice a difference. I feel better when I am eating the right foods. It has helped to calm some of my issues. I am a long way from cured. I have set myself way off course for a good many of years. But everyday I feel a little bit better, and everyday it gives me the encouragement to keep at it. This is fantastic, there are so many foods and drinks available to boost your metabolism and I am glad that people are talking about it. My metabolism sucks and I need to pay attention to foods I eat!
This sounds like an interesting and helpful read. My metabolism isn’t the greatest, but I won’t be worrying about it for another couple of more months!

Oh boy. Well, my husband has recently been seen and we’re waiting for results but it’s likely thyroid disease as it’s genetic. And me.. Well, where do I start? I have fibromyalgia, ulcerative colitis, had chronic pancreatitis leading to a total pancreatectomy with islet transplant, also removing my spleen, gallbladder, and appendix. That’s the past though, right now I’m struggling with increased pain and trying to adjust my pain medications and other things to get it under control. I’ve been disabled because of my hereditary neuropathy since 6 years ago, a week shy of turning 24. I’ve tried diet changes, and cutting gluten helped like CRAZY. But sugar is my one and only vice, I fear. 🙁 But it’s time to buck up and try again from a different perspective!
