Are you and your kids having trouble getting into the back to school spirit? My family definitely isn’t ready for summer break to end. I have a super fun event to share that might just help us out! On July 27th, participating Walmart stores will be showcasing in-store STEAM Events. Learning can be so much fun and these STEAM events at Walmart are sure to help kids get excited about Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics – maybe even a little excited about returning to school!
Click the image below to find an event near you. This is the perfect opportunity to pop into Walmart to buy your school supplies and participate in some of the activities, alongside your children. Check out some of the featured STEAM event products and back to school supplies that I’ve already picked up at Walmart.
Get into the back to school spirit with STEAM Events at Walmart!
There are several fun activities happening throughout the day at the STEAM events. I’ve listed them below, along with the times. Also, there are only 2000 participating stores – click here to find a Walmart store near you!
Tie Dye Shirts (10:00AM – 2:00PM) Create fun designs using sharpie markers on Hanes t-shirts. Spray with rubbing alcohol and let the shirt sit for the marker to bleed across the shirt. Be sure to pick up some ALL detergent for the after care!
Slime (2:00PM – 4:30PM) Learn 3 easy steps to make slime with Elmer’s slime kits.
Cereal Necklace Making (10:30AM – 4:30PM) A fun activity for younger children.
My daughter says she is going to be a space scientist when she grows up. I love that she is interested in math and science, and is reaching for the stars. I also LOVE that Walmart is offering these STEAM events during the summer and right before school starts. It has motivated me to incorporate some STEAM activities into our summer fun. Did you know you can turn something as simple as blowing bubbles into a teachable moment? That’s just what I did recently.
Instead of using store-bought bubbles, we made our own with just 3 ingredients.
1 1/2 cups water
1/2 cup liquid dish soap
2 teaspoons sugar
Mix all ingredients together in a bowl. Go outside and blow bubbles!
Now, for the science behind bubbles! Do you know what bubbles are and how they work? A bubble is a thin film of soapy water that is filled with air. Basically, just air wrapped in soap film. The outside and inside surfaces of a bubble consist of soap molecules. A thin layer of water lies between the two layers of soap molecules, working together to hold air inside.
A bubble gets its color from light waves reflecting between the soap film’s outer and inner surfaces.
Fun fact: The colder the outside temperature is, the higher a bubble might fly. This is because the warm air from your breath is lighter than cold air.
Don’t miss the STEAM event at Walmart store near you on July 27, 2019!
This is such a terrific way kickstart your back to school shopping and participate in some fun STEAM activities! My daughter and I already got started on our shopping, but have a few more supplies to get on July 27.
We already picked up an Elmer’s Mega Slime Kit to do at home, but look forward to making Tie Dye Shirts in-store at Walmart.
