Typically, a grasshopper milkshake is a boozy milkshake that combines ice cream, creme de menthe, and creme de cacao together. The obvious issue, though, is that these shakes are just too good to reserve for the 21+ set (or whatever the drinking age is in your country). Grasshopper cookies are mint and fudge cookies. There are various brands of these cookies. Keebler is a favorite of mine. Girl Scout Thin Mint cookies are great for this recipe, too. If neither of these is available where you live, any cookie featuring chocolate and mint will do. If you love the combination of chocolate and mint, you have to try these Andes Mint Cupcakes, too.

Why You Will Love This Recipe

  • Chocolate and mint are such a classic combination. When made creamy from the ice cream, you’ve got a winning dessert.
  • Perfect for those hot days, thanks to that ice cream.
  • If you’re like me and love drinks you can eat, you’ll roughly chop the cookies so that there will be big chunks of cookie just floating there in the shake.
  • While I have removed the booze to make this drink kid friendly, you could add the creme de menthe and creme de cacao back in for a more “sophisticated” cocktail.

Variations

You can easily swap ingredients to make this shake to your own liking. For instance, you could use mint cream-filled sandwich cookies or ditch the cookies altogether and use Andes mint chocolate candies. You could also swap out the mint chocolate chip ice cream for cookies and cream or vanilla ice cream. Then, use the green food coloring to maintain the St Paddy’s Day theme.
