My mom called this dish hash, so I always thought the word “hash” meant good food, made well, that no one can resist.

Dinner doesn’t have to be fancy to be delicious. Some of our most prized meals are the simplest ones. Eggs with bacon, seasoned with salt and pepper. Chicken and rice, seasoned with salt and pepper. An omelet, seasoned with salt and cooked in butter. That’s all you need. Same goes for this meal. It’s simple, but that makes it simply amazing as well. That’s something we’ve forgotten lately. That a bit of seasoning and good meat and vegetables and real food can taste, well, amazing.
Instead of reaching for a kind of helper mix to stir your ground beef into with some flavorless dehydrated potatoes and some fake powdered sauce full of chemicals, just follow this recipe and you’ll see that simple ground beef and potatoes can taste much more amazing than any silly ole preservative-filled box of this or that.
Whatever you’ve been eating from a box – know this, it’s not as delicious as what it will taste like if you simply add real spices, ground beef, and real potatoes to the mix. And you don’t need much. A few seasonings you already have in your cabinet, I bet and you’re on your way to a wholesome, delicious, fast, easy-to-prepare feast that complements virtually any veggie side and dessert.
And it’s fast, filling, and scrumptious.

Why Busy Moms and Dads Love Beef and Potatoes
There are two foods children seem to crave from birth, mothers tell me – and that’s meat and potatoes. Babies, they say, start eating faster because they want to taste our burgers, fries, meats, potatoes, and say ta-ta to squishy baby food.
And adults are just big kids really. Put a pan of this on the stove and suddenly, all children, young and old, who might be misbehavin’ suddenly come correct. From a sullen tween demanding a new video game system way before Christmas to a wayward husband who forgot to seal the deck but managed to have time to hang out with the guys watching the game all day… All will be in your thrall and have to amend their behaviors because… how else are they going to get in the kitchen and pop the lid off that simmering pan full of deliciousness unless they come correct – big time? Ahhh the power of good food to make families come together, happily, gratefully, and on their best behavior, too.

How to Make Ahead and Store
Ground beef and potatoes keep very well once cooked, and this dish will keep in an airtight container for 3 days, including the day of service. You can also freeze leftovers for 60 days – just thaw in the fridge before reheating in the microwave.
