These golden, delicious, pillow-soft clouds of Hamburger Buns are the perfect complement to savory meats.

Nothing really says, “I love you,” like taking the time to make your family the sweetest, tenderest delight of a sandwich they love, served on a homemade hamburger bun.
What?!?!
You’ve never had a homemade hamburger bun? You’ve definitely been missing the aroma and wholesome flavor of freshly baked bread.

And take a look at that picture of those perfectly browned buns risen to perfection, just waiting for you to slice and stuff them.

You will not be able to believe your eyes, or the experience of biting into one, until you taste them yourself.
And busy moms and dads … I know what you’re thinking, “I have to work … I have to do this and that … no time to bake homemade hamburger buns, … I’ll just buy them at the store…”
We’re talking, really, 20 minutes actual prep time, and that’s including the kneading.
Which a mixer with a dough hook does for me.
And it only takes 15 minutes to bake them.
So, we’re talking about such minimal work for such a good thing to serve your family.
I love making homemade hamburger buns because it gives you control over what you’re eating, since you know exactly what goes into the recipe.

Why You And Your Family Will Love Homemade Hamburger Buns
This recipe for hamburger buns has just enough saltiness and sweetness, plus that lovely little crunch from the sesame seeds. It will complement everything you fill it with, from fork-tender pulled pork to hamburgers and Italian deli sandwiches.
This bread’s sweet, heady flavor will complement any proteins from lentil creations to fish sandwiches.
The great thing about making your family homemade breads is that they freeze very well, from whole loaves to slices, buns to rolls.
You can easily double the recipe to make 16 of these to freeze, so you’ll always have fresh buns for your family to enjoy. And that, right there, my dear readers, is love.

How Do I Store Leftovers?
You can store these, covered, at room temperature for up to 3-4 days or freeze them for up to 90 days (3 months). To freeze them, I suggest stacking them in gallon freezer bags and pushing all the air out first. When ready to use them, thaw them at room temperature and pop them into a microwave for about 10 to 30 seconds. You can also warm them in the oven for a few minutes with olive oil or butter brushed on them for a toasted effect!

Serving Suggestions
These buns are a great vehicle for my favorite hamburger patties recipe. You can also use these buns when making slow-cooker pulled pork sandwiches that use root beer. The root beer provides the meat with the sweetest, tangiest, pull-apart quality. I serve these sandwiches with this delicious slaw that you can heap right on them. My favorite side of all? These cheese-topped grilled ears of corn are just simply to DIE FOR. Against these proteins and sides, there’s nothing better than a creamy slice of heavenly peach cheesecake.

Hamburger Buns Recipe
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup warm water plus more if needed
- 1 large egg room temperature
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
- 3 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter softened
- 3 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 large egg for egg wash
- 1 tablespoon water for egg wash
- 2 teaspoons sesame seeds
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl or stand mixer, combine warm water, egg, sugar, salt, and yeast. Whisk for 1 minute to hydrate the yeast.

- Add softened butter and most of the flour. Mix using a dough hook until the dough comes together. If sticky or dry, add a little more flour or water at a time until the right consistency is achieved.

- Knead for 5-6 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let it rest in a warm place for about 90 minutes, or until it doubles in size.

- Turn the dough onto a clean surface, divide into 8 pieces, and roll each into a smooth ball.

- Place on a baking sheet, flatten slightly, and cover loosely. Let rise until puffed, about 60-90 minutes.

- Preheat oven to 400°F. Make an egg wash by beating the egg with water, brush over the buns, and sprinkle with sesame seeds.

- Bake for 15 minutes until golden brown.
