I have been making my own dog treats for years. The dogs seem to like them better than store bought and I know that my treats are healthier for them. T

Pumpkin Dog Treats Recipe

These days you can’t be too careful about the ingredients found in pet food and treats. I had a can of leftover pumpkin from my Thanksgiving baking and thought I would try making some homemade pumpkin dog biscuits. They turned out great and the dogs seem to really enjoy them.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 3 tablespoons applesauce
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup canned pumpkin (not pie filling)
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions:

Step 1: Preheat oven to 400 degrees F and grease cookie sheets. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl. Mix until thoroughly incorporated. (Note: I ended up adding a bit more flour because my batter was slightly too loose.)

Step 2: Drop the dough onto a greased cookie sheet using a teaspoon or small cookie scoop, approximately 1 inch apart. Bake for 14 minutes or until the cookies are firm. Move to wire rack to cool.

Step 3: Recipe should make 2 – 3 dozen, depending on the size of your scoop.
