My wellness plan for this year has forced me to make a lot of dietary changes. In addition to cutting back on calories and carbs, I am cutting way back on the preservatives I consume.

Homemade taco seasoning, a reddish-brown spice blend, in a white bowl.

Mixing up your own seasoning blends is such a simple way to cut preservatives out of your diet. I use taco seasoning in so many dishes. We love tacos at my house! Making homemade taco seasoning is a no-brainer for me.

This homemade taco seasoning is both preservative-free and gluten-free, and it’s so easy to customize the ingredients to suit your tastes. For example, you may like it a little spicier than I do and will want to add a bit more red pepper flakes.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon oregano
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
Homemade Taco Seasoning, a blend of chili powder, cumin, and other spices in a white bowl.

Instructions:

Step 1: This is so easy to make. All you do is whisk the ingredients together in a bowl.

Step 2: The recipe makes 3 tablespoons of taco seasoning. You’ll want to use 3 tablespoons per pound of meat, so double and triple this recipe accordingly.

We use alot of taco seasoning….not just for tacos but for soups, hamburgers and salads. I need to try your homemade version because I’m never 100% satisfied with the store bought seasoning packets.

It’s so smart to make these things at home. I don’t know why I have to find it in a blog post to think of it, lol!!

I have never made my own taco seasoning. But as often as we eat tacos we should. Way more frugal to make it yourself.

I’ve been trying to make more things from natural ingredients. This is perfect since we love Mexican food. Thanks so much for the recipe 🙂
