We finally got snow late last week. It had been a couple years since we had gotten enough snow for the kids to play. Unfortunately, the snow did not warrant a snow day from school, just a late start. As soon as school let out, the kids were outside playing in the snow. They soon got cold, so we brought the snow inside and did a little Indoor Snow Play.
Yes we did this! The kids were so excited. One child did not even completely undress from playing outside.
I pulled a big tub out the garage and filled it with snow. I put the tub on a tile floor, so I was not too concerned about water. We had a towel nearby to clean up any melted snow. You can lay a small tarp or plastic shower curtain under the tub as well to protect floors.
You could do a lot with the snow. I had some sandbox toys I had picked up real cheap at end of summer sales and put those in the snow for the kids to use.
More ideas for indoor snow play:
- Color the snow with paint or food coloring
- Drive toy cars/trucks through the snow
- Use dishes and utensils from the kitchen (measuring cups would be great)
- Take turns hiding items in the snow for others to find
Pretty much any small toys that can get wet would work.
What ideas do you have for indoor snow play?

This is such a cute idea for the kids to experience the snow in a different way!
My boys will love your idea of putting their trucks through some hills of snow! Thank you for the post and the idea!
I just found this fun idea for indoor snow play. I hate bundling the kids up and they only want to be out in the cold for 1 or 2 minutes. Next time it snows we will do this!
It is nice to leave all the winter gear off and still enjoy snow Aliza!
