When Zach was a baby, I didn’t use a crib, I used a playard. I found that using a playard was much more convenient for me because at the time he was born, I lived with my family. There wasn’t much room in the house for a separate room for Zach, he slept in my room. We co-slept for the first 3 or so months of his life, but as soon as he could roll over on his stomach, he slept in a playard.
The convenience of a playard just made sense to me as a new mom. A playard provided me with a sleeping area for my newborn, and as he got older, the mattress was easily adjusted to two heights. Now that Zach is much older now and has transitioned back to co-sleeping with me, I’ve found that we still use the Playard– for my nieces when we babysit!
I was so excited to be able to review the Whimsical Wonders Washable Ingenuity Playard by Bright Starts. This review was made possible by Double Duty Divas and Kids II. Although I received this playard for free, all opinions expressed in this review are genuine and my own. Let’s get started!
The Whimsical Wonders playard features a soft, gender neutral design that makes it perfect for both boys and girls. As a consumer, I like to buy gender-neutral products so I can reuse them over and over again without worrying about colors, as it helps save me money in the long-run, so this was a great move by Ingenuity. The playard holds up to 35″ tall and up to 30lbs which is also the recommended height/weight for a child unable to climb out. You are really getting a long-term use with this product, almost 2 1/2 years or more.
The Ingenuity playard features a zip in bassinet that is suitable for infants less than 15lbs. The bassinet is very sturdy, which I love. It includes metal rods to hold the bassinet in place, and the zip feature also includes buckles at each end for extra support. Another favorite feature of mine is the convenient changing table the playard comes with. Included is a cover that wipes clean, and it can easily be removed completely or pivots out of the way when not in use, which is super cool. To set up, you just need to snap it into place. Very easy.
Next to the changing table you will find a handy tray that allows me to easily store diapers, wipes, and a change of clothes for my niece. The tray organizer is also removable and the three sections allow to a variety of storage. The playard also comes with a removable fabric toy bar with 2 plush toys so that baby can be entertained, as seen in the second photo above. Like the changing table, you just need to snap the fabric toy bar into place and it’s ready to use.
Everything you need for the baby is right there in one area (bedding, changing table, organizing tray, etc), so you don’t need to purchase these items separately which can help save new moms a lot of time and money.
One of the coolest features of the Ingenuity Whimsical Wonders playard is that it is completely machine washable. All the fabrics on the playard can be completely removed to be washed which makes it easier for parents to clean up messes. This unique feature ultimately helps reduce baby’s exposure to dirt, dust, spills, stains, allergens, germs, and so much more. How convenient is that! If I had this when Zach was still a baby, it would’ve made my life so much easier. It does take some time to completely remove all the fabric the first time, but if after a few tries, it gets a lot easier.
The One Less Step folding system makes setting up the playard easy. All you have to do is click the sidebars into place and push down the center and you’re ready to insert all the pieces that the playard comes with. I love that it has wheels on the bottom, because this makes transporting the playard from different rooms in the house much more convenient. The Ingenuity Whimsical Wonders Washable Playard is easily foldable and comes with a handle so that you can take it with you when you travel, or store it away when it’s not in use. The portability of the playard is great for parents that are always on the go.
I love the features of the Whimsical Wonders playard and if I was having another baby, I think this would be a great choice for us. For now, my niece loves sleeping in the playard during her naps and it makes for a great playpen when she’s awake. I think what I love the most about it though, is that it is completely washable like I mentioned. The Whimsical Wonders Washable Playard is portable, convenient, and a great choice for new parents.

We’ve always used one of these when we travel and we also used it when we used to live in a 2 story house… we kept it on the bottom floor for easy naps!
