What does it take to create the most SPOT-ON copycat of KFC Coleslaw? The right recipe. Who’s got the best copycat recipes, hands down? Aboutamom.com!

Throughout much of my childhood and young adulthood, Colonel Sanders, founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken, was still alive. I did, indeed, meet him — more than once. My most distinctive memory of meeting him was at King’s Island in Mason, Ohio, when he made a rare appearance there. There were so many people waiting to shake the hand of this man that I could hardly see him through the crowd — except for that signature beard. I could see that. Today, Taylor Swift is given that kind of reverence.
You might wonder, “How did Sanders make that chicken so delicious, that coleslaw so creamy?” Well, pressure frying and his secret blend of seasonings helped with the chicken. But take a look at our recipe below, and you can tell we worked very hard to make this KFC copycat coleslaw spot-on and delicious for you and your family.
Why You Will Love This Copycat KFC Coleslaw
It takes major work to get a copycat recipe just right. After all, restaurants have access to ingredients and patented this and that — flavorings and colorings that the average consumer cannot purchase at any store. So, often, it’s hard to replicate a restaurant’s signature dishes, especially once it becomes a big franchise serving millions daily.
Luckily, we tweaked and tweaked this until it became, I think, the best coleslaw I’ve ever tasted. A little buttermilk here, a dash of lemon juice there, and soon, we had a recipe that tasted just like the 40 cups of coleslaw we had purchased at KFC to use for taste tests.
And this KFC copycat coleslaw is a stunner. In this carefully constructed and very delicious coleslaw, finely chopped cabbage and carrots are complemented by the swoon-worthy concoction of buttermilk, whole milk, and mayonnaise, which creates the dreamiest base for this coleslaw. When you add lemon juice, sugar, and white vinegar, the coleslaw comes alive with flavor, providing acid, sweetness, and tartness to this taste-bud-pleasing slaw.

How to Make Ahead and Store
You can store this coleslaw in an airtight container in the refrigerator 3 days tops. Coleslaw like this does NOT freeze well, especially a creamy-based one with three forms of dairy in it. You cannot freeze slaws except for vinegar-based freezer slaws.
