How to Use a Kindergarten Readiness Assessment

When you are ready to sign your child up for kindergarten, often times the school wants to see what your child knows and what they are still struggling to learn. These worksheets will help you assess where your child is right now.

What Should Children Know for Kindergarten?

While what the school wants children to know will vary from school to school some of the basic things that children should know for kindergarten are:

  • Write his or her name and recognize it when written
  • Know the ABCs
  • Name basic shapes and know which is which.
  • Sort items by shape, color, and size.
  • How to handle a book and turn the pages
  • Know the numbers 1-10 and be able to recognize it when it is seen
  • Count to 20 and be able to count objects up to 10.
  • Know the colors in a basic crayon pack

What if My Child Doesn’t Pass the Readiness Test?

These tests are designed to see what children might need help with when school starts. These tests do not mean that your child will not be able to start school. These tests help parents and teachers know where the child is struggling so that they can get to where they need to be.

Printable Kindergarten Assessment

Download and print the Printable Kindergarten Readiness Assessment. Click the link and then download the packet. Then you will want to print out the sheets. While I print pictures on normal or best quality, worksheets I like to print on draft so that I can save ink.

These Kindergarten Readiness printables are for personal use only. You’re welcome to print them as many times as you like for both home and classroom use. If family, friends, or co-workers would like their own activity sheet, please send them to this post where they can download the files for themselves. Just please don’t distribute the download files. Thank you!

Calling all spaghetti lovers! You're going to love this spaghetti recipe with a twist. Spaghetti Pie has long been one of my family's most go to meals for dinner. Spaghetti pie is a kid-pleasing meal that is simple enough to whip up on a busy weeknight. Essentially, this is a cheesy baked spaghetti that is made in a pie dish. Sounds delish, right?!
