This Apple Cinnamon French Toast is such a great make ahead recipe for brunch or just a special breakfast. It’s both visually appealing and delicious. My family loves this recipe!

Breakfast is a busy time in most houses, especially on weekday mornings. I don’t know many moms or dads that have the time to cook a big meal before they are off to work and the kids are off to school. That’s why make-ahead breakfasts are such a good idea!

Give them something other than that cold cereal or toaster pastry. That’s the idea behind this Apple Cinnamon French Toast recipe. It’s delicious on any morning, but it perfect for those where you are pressed for time. Make it on the weekend so all you have to do is heat up a few slices on a busy morning. Slices can be reheated in an oven or toaster oven at 350 degrees until warm, or in a microwave, at 30-second intervals.

Ingredients:

  • 5 tablespoons butter
  • 2 large baking apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 cup firmly packed dark-brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons dark corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 8 1-inch-thick slices large French bread or egg bread (4 inches wide)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

Step 1: The day before serving, prepare the apples and French toast:

Step 6: In medium-size bowl, with fork, beat eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until well mixed; pour over bread slices.

Step 7: Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.

Day of serving:

Step 1: Heat oven to 375 degrees.

Step 2: Remove plastic wrap from baking pan and bake French toast 30 to 35 minutes or until mixture is firm and bread is golden. Cool in pan 5 minutes.

Step 3: Invert serving tray over French toast and carefully turn both over to unmold so that apple layer is on top. spoon over bread any apple slices or syrup left in pan. Serve and enjoy!

Love this recipe! I find the best recipes in the archives of blogs. And use the Jewish Challah bread, it makes the best french toast in the world!
