I can’t think of anything more lady-like than a tea party, and I just love the idea of a sweet tea party on Mother’s Day. Mother’s Day is a special day. It’s the one day every year we show just how grateful and thankful we are for all of mom’s hard work. A Mother’s Day Tea Party is a great way for mom and her daughters to spend quality time together laughing, talking and snacking on delicious treats and tea sandwiches.
How to Do a Tea Party for Mother’s Day
My own Mom and I recently had a little Mom and Daughter Tea Party, so I though I would share some pics and recipes to give you some tea party ideas.
You simply cannot go wrong with flowers. Whether they are fresh cut flowers, silk flowers, or even a floral tablecloth – you should use them all. Mix and match your prettiest pastel linens, and pull out your best china and tea set.
Stack your cake plates and use a variety of different platters and serving pieces. A tea party doesn’t have to be all matchy matchy.
For our tea party, we used this diy sugar cubes method to make some pretty rosebud sugar cubes for our tea.
We used rolled paper doilies, bits of ribbon, and stick on flowers to make pretty tussie mussies, and each held a spoon. A tussie mussie is a small flower bouquet that is usually given as a gift. They became popular during the reign of Queen Victoria (1837-1901) when they were a popular fashion accessory. I think they are the perfect addition to a Mother’s Day tea party.
Our simple but scrumptious menu included raspberry tea, veggie and herb cheese tea sandwiches, mini tomato and goat cheese tarts, jam filled butter cookies, and pretty caramel hazelnut mousse tartlets.

I think it’s always fun to ask all the guests to wear “Victorian Attire” and required Hats and Gloves. If you have them available, place extra hats and gloves at the door.
