To me, there is simply no better recipe for burgers in the world than this Mushroom Swiss Burger Recipe.

Do you remember the first time you tried a fast food burger not made the McDonald’s way, with their typical ketchup, mustard, pickle, and onion topping?

I do.

I was eight, and I was at a Wendy’s, and I had just discovered the wonder of sautéed mushrooms.

So, I decided to make a big, risky move and choose the Wendy’s Mushroom and Swiss burger over my usual single hamburger and found, to my surprise and delight, that I adored it.

A good, homemade mushroom and Swiss burger can become a welcome addition to your normal rotation of meals that will make the entire family happy. After all, nothing tastes better than a skillet-fried hamburger… but top it with hot Swiss cheese and the delicious, buttery lusciousness of sautéed cremini mushrooms, and you’ve got one sublime sandwich coming your way.

Why You Will Love This Mushroom Swiss Burger Recipe

This play on Wendy’s famous Mushroom and Swiss burger brings the savory and the deliciousness much more than any ol’ hamburger joint can. That’s because you ignite its flavors from within with all kinds of fresh-from-the-rack spices and seasonings that bring deep umami tones to this burger, like Worcestershire sauce.

Adding those other dry and wet flavor-enhancing ingredients to these burgers is so cheffy-smart, like that minced garlic, vegetable broth, steak seasoning, salt, and pepper. That’s because they’re the same ingredients used to make rubs and marinades that enrich steaks with a ton of flavor.

Then you top those savory, fried burgers with that pungent drape of melted Swiss cheese and those butter-sautéed mushrooms, and you have yourself one amazingly good burger.

FAQs & Tips

How Do I Store Leftovers?

Store leftover cooked patties in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. You can also refrigerate the cooked mushrooms in an airtight container for up to 2 days. To reheat, place the burgers and mushrooms in a baking pan covered with aluminum foil and bake for 8 to 10 minutes at 350°F (or until heated all the way through) before adding to some fresh buns.

Great Add-Ons For Mushroom Swiss Burgers?

Bacon brings a ton of flavor to these burgers. I mean, you cannot go wrong with three or four strips of bacon crossed across that melted cheese. Other great ideas? Sautéed, caramelized onions. And my favorite addition? A velvety slice or two of luscious, green, fresh, dewy avocado.

Are Mushroom Swiss Burgers Gluten-Free?

These burgers can contain gluten in two areas—the bun and that steak seasoning. But you can create an amazingly flavorful GF version by simply substituting Udi’s GF hamburger buns and Weber’s Chicago Steak Seasoning, which is certified gluten-free.

Serving Suggestions

For an amazing meal, start to finish, I recommend pairing these cheesy, mushroomy burgers with these easy Air-Fryer Onion Rings and smacking one of them right on top of the burger. For some fresh, green nutrition on the table, I highly recommend this Bacon Ranch Layered Salad because, as we all know, too much bacon is never enough. For dessert, try this Classic Strawberry Pretzel Salad. You won’t believe how the flavors in this sweet, crunchy, salty, sweet dessert bring a great finish to any meal.
