All year round, but especially during the holidays, I love to give my friends and family the gift of food. I guess you could say that I’m a bit of a food pusher.

Simple Plum Pastries

It makes me happy to see the people I love enjoy the foods I have prepared with them. That phrase “baked with love” couldn’t be anymore true. My grandchildren always say that they like going to Grandma Laura’s house because she has good food. I know that’s not the only reason they come to visit me, but still I’ll take what I can get and if it’s yummy treats they want – so be it. My family normally has Thanksgiving dinner at my son’s house, but this year I’ll be hosting. I’ll need some simple treats to keep everyone happy while the turkey is in the oven, and I think these simple Plum Pastries fit the bill quite nicely.

Do you see the pretty platter these are served on? I picked this platter up at Target over the weekend. It has a pretty silver snowflake in the center of the platter that you can’t see, also a pretty silver trim with tiny little snowflakes. It’s just perfect for my holiday entertaining and was a real steel at under $15. The red and white table runner and napkins were a couple more of my Target finds. Target has so many great products to help me with my holiday entertaining this year.

I’ll probably be popping back into Target next week to get some of these beautiful Ombre Glasses.

Making these plum pastries couldn’t be any simpler. They are perfect for brunch, dessert, or an afternoon treat with a cup of tea. I used strawberry jam for my pastries, but use an jam you happen to have that will compliment the plums.

Plum Pastry Recipe

Ingredients:

2 sheets puff pastry, defrosted (I used Pepperidge Farm)
4 plums
strawberry jam, about 1/2 cup
sugar, for sprinkling

Method:

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2: Halve and pit the plums. Slice into thin wedges.

Step 3: Cut the puff pastry into 3 x 5 rectangles. Arrange the plum slices on top of each piece of puff pastry.

Step 4: Warm strawberry jam in a small saucepan. Brush jam over the tops of each pastry, covering both the plums and pastry. Sprinkle with sugar.

Step 5: Bake 12-15 minutes or until the pastry puffs up and turns golden brown.

Step 6: Serve and enjoy. Recipe makes about 8 tartlets.

Note to self – try using puff pastry! II can’t believe I haven’t tried using it yet! This looks so special and like it took a long time! I’d be glad to bring this to a special meal, or just have it for home and/or company! Wow, it couldn’t get much easier.
