Can you believe it’s already time to start thinking about New Year’s resolutions? This year I want my family’s travels to be a part of my resolution making. I want us to go beyond ‘basic’ family travel. After all, so many of our most cherished memories have been made during family vacations like our trips to Florida to visit our favorite amusement parks. So often we travel as an extended family, to include brother, sisters, cousins and grandparents. These big family vacations are always the best.
Getting to up close and personal with a dolphin at Sea World, Orlando was a neat experience.
Heading further north to play in the snow at Snow Mountain was a lot of fun too!
Travel is much more than the destination. I really want us to have more meaningful family time while on vacation, and one of the ways we can do that is to unplug from technology. With teens and young adults our family trips are so loaded down with technology, from video games to smartphones and tablets. As a blogger, I am so guilty of wanting to share everything we do in real time to Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. It’s time to unplug!
Here it is… I’m putting it out into the universe!
My #AlamoDriveHappy family travel resolution is to unplug from technology for a full 24 hours during our family travels. That’s no screens or technology at all for 24 hours. (This is going to be hard.) Instead, we will fill that time having creative fun by doing art projects and crafts as a family.
It is so easy to get caught up in technology while on vacation. I even have a travel tech check list that I use to make sure we aren’t leaving anything behind. I’m actually really looking forward to having a whole technology free day of doing creative things. I have a feeling we will be implementing this new rule on all our trips.
I challenge you to make your own resolution. What will your #AlamoDriveHappy family travel resolution be? If you need ideas, brainstorm with other moms about ways to go beyond ‘basic’ family travel. I always get the best ideas from chatting with other parents. I can’t wait to hear what you come up with!
What will your resolution be?

Unplugging is SO important. I think we all need to take the time to do it. We are going away after the holidays and I plan to unplug for a few days. We’ll see how this goes!

LOL, unplugging is so important yet so difficult! It’s tough when we’re bloggers and revolve around social media.
Unplugging is so hard when you first do it, but always so so so refreshing when you’ve jumped right in. It’s nice to have family time without worrying about ‘one more thing’ to do or check.
Great challenge! We recently took a very long car ride and we had a rule no electronics except between 1 and 3. It’s amazing how the kids talked more, found sites to see etc.
This is a great challenge. I will have to mention this to my teenagers and see what they think.
