If you visit this blog often, you may have heard me whine once or twice about moving away from the city and my favorite Chinese take-out. Living out in the country definitely has it’s perks, but doing without my Friday night egg rolls, pork dumplings and Lo Mein has taken some getting used to.

Slow Cooker Asian Pork served in a bowl over white rice, garnished with green onions.

This slow cooker Asian pork recipe is just as good as stopping into your favorite Chinese restaurant on your way home from work. All you have to do is pop the ingredients into the slow cooker in the morning, and presto… the flavorful aroma of Chinese five-spice infused pork is ready and pull-apart delicious come dinnertime. Marinating overnight before cooking brings all that delectable flavor.

Slow Cooker Asian Pork served over white rice, topped with sauce and green onion garnish.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce or tamari
  • 1⁄2 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1 Tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 Tbsp honey
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1 1⁄2 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 tsp Chinese five-spice powder
  • 2 lb pork shoulder
  • 1⁄4 cup chicken broth

Instructions:

Step 1: Whisk together soy sauce through fivespice powder. Add to large plastic bag with pork. Marinate overnight.

Step 2: Place pork with marinade into slow cooker. Cook on low for 8 hours. Add broth to slow cooker and cook for an additional 30 minutes. Remove pork and shred with two forks.

Step 3: Serve with rice or noodles. At home Asian cooking doesn’t get any easier than this slow cooker recipe, and it’s delish!

This looks super yummy! My family doesn’t eat pork, but I’m definitely going to try this with beef, probably chicken, too.

This sounds so delicious, I can’t wait to try it. I know the house is going to smell so yummy when this is cooking in the crockpot. We’re an out in the country family, too, so the good stuff usually has to be made at home.
